Mama Reads for a Busy Mama…
How was your week? Did you have some fun family time for Easter? My oldest were with thier dad for the entire week until Easter Day. So we’re happy to be back together – our entire beautifully-blended family – again!
Have a busy week coming up? (I know, I know… what mama doesn’t?!) Need some encouragement or just something to read in your downtime? Here are my favorite “Mama Reads” for you…
My Favorite Mama Reads for Your Week Ahead:
- Why We Need to Stop Asking “How Do You Do It All?” – Interesting thoughts on this automatic question so many of us ask and get asked during this game of motherhood.
“So before you ask how do you do it all? to the mom at preschool who seems to have it together or the mom in the grocery store who actually coupons or the mom at work who never has spit-up on her shirt or the mom with multiples or, well, anyone, step back and think about the question. When you ask the question, are you questioning you? Are you wondering if you don’t have it all together? Are you comparing your life to the life of the mom you meet? Are you encouraging her with those words and that question? Motherhood isn’t about perfection, doing it all, and achieving a gold star at the end. It is a journey without the secret of doing it all; rather, it’s about being.”
- 10 Things You Don’t Owe Your Child – Whether you agree with everything on this mama’s list, it’s an important question to consider. What are our children actually entitled to?
“There are many things in life that we DO ‘owe’ our children. As parents, we owe them our unconditional love, respect, and endless forgiveness. They deserve a place to call home, food to keep them healthy, and an education that will help them later in life. However, there are plenty of things in life they are not entitled to. These are things parents don’t need to feel guilty about. We do not need to feel guilty saying, ‘NO’ to our children!”
- Are You Holding Your Child Back? – I love this reminder to give our kids more freedom to have adventures, make mistakes, and learn lessons.
“I realized I was teaching them more by letting them try it and working it out themselves than by protecting them and saying no to them even trying!”
- The Joy and Sadness of the Last Baby – This is exactly how I feel about having babies… *sigh*
“This day had to come eventually; we can’t keep having babies endlessly. But I always imagined that when we got here, I’d look at my family and feel “done.” As it is, I could easily see one or two more smiles there. If it were an option logistically, financially, and health-wise, I’d keep having babies forever. But alas, it is not, so this is it.”
