Mama Reads to Encourage You…
How was your week? We’re coming off of another good week. The kids had fun activities at school for Reading Month and Easter. And I had a productive week and some new members join my Young Living Essential Oils team – Yahoo!
Have a busy week coming up? (I know, I know… what mama doesn’t?!) Need some encouragement or just something to read in your downtime? Here are my favorite “Mama Reads” for you…
My Favorite Mama Reads for Your Week Ahead:
- Depression #thestruggleisACTUALLYreal – I haven’t written about it much (yet), but I’ve been battling depression since my bout with it postpartum after my first child was born 8 years ago. I am feeling great lately; controlled by medication, vitamins, weekly therapy, prayer, and lots of family support. So I love sharing this article with you. Depression IS very real. But nothing to be ashamed about.
“So many experience it so differently. For me, depression is a physical, mental, visceral reaction. A fluttering weakness in my breath. An eager wetness in my eyes. A heaviness in my limbs and soul. I have to will myself to push hard against the world just to participate in the simplest tasks. I have to battle against the hard pulling down, the extra gravity of weighted emotion.”
- Dear Preemie Mom – I see you; I’ve been you!
“I see you wondering if you are the kind of mother your baby really needs. You think that someone else would be much better suited for all of this. All of the therapy and special arrangements that have to be made – you think you aren’t cut out for this. You don’t know how you will make it through. You look back to the life you had before – maybe you used to work and now you have to stay home. Maybe you want to stay home but you have to work. Either way, it is not the life you planned for yourself. It is not how you imagined having a baby would be.”
- The Secret to Doing It All – Such an important reminder for all of us mamas. Especially those of us (Me, Me, ME!) who are addicted to Pinterest and Blogs and Social Media that make it look like there is SO MUCH to do.
“We simply were not created to do it all. I truly believe we each have wonderful and unique gifts. Each of us are going to pursue different things and focus more on different areas of life. We cannot do it all because we are not created with the ability to do it all. Instead of striving to do it all, we can focus on a few things and do them well.”
- Positive Parenting Isn’t Perfect Parenting and That’s OK – AMEN! We are not perfect, Mamas. Give yourself GRACE today.
“Shifting my focus from expecting perfection to expecting challenges, the path has actually seemed a little less rocky. While I would love to implement patient, consistent positive strategies all of the time, I realize that I am not perfect. My kids are not perfect. My life is not perfect.”
