Between endless Christmas shopping, wrapping way too many presents, baking the kids Christmas treats, and all the other bustle of the holiday season, we aren’t left with a whole lot of time for everything else. You know… like cooking meals so the kids don’t starve.
But, I’ve discovered some amazing shortcuts that still deliver loads of flavor but save a lot of time. Like using a few everyday ingredients and my slow cooker to make this easy crock pot biscuits and gravy casserole recipe.
Easy Biscuits and Gravy Crockpot Breakfast Casserole
You can toss everything together in the crock pot and then enjoy some family time on Christmas morning instead of missing all the fun babysitting a skillet on the stove. It’s the perfect breakfast casserole recipe for any holiday brunch, family potluck, or even just a busy weekend morning. Just put the ingredients in your crockpot as soon as you wake up. You’ll only need to check it once, for less than a minute, before it’s ready to fill up your family’s hungry bellies. Plus, a large slow cooker of casserole costs less than $10 to make! Here’s how to make it…
Slow Cooker Biscuits & Gravy Breakfast Casserole Ingredients
You’ll only need a few everyday ingredients for this crock pot biscuits and gravy casserole recipe: eggs, shredded cheddar cheese, ground breakfast sausage, 1 tube of refrigerator biscuits, milk, and sausage gravy (or some butter, flower, and milk to make your own homemade gravy).
Crock Pot Biscuit & Gravy Casserole Instructions:
The only real prep time for this biscuits and gravy breakfast casserole is to brown and drain the sausage. If you don’t even want to do that, you can buy pre-cooked sausage from the store and use that.
Next, you’ll want to coat your crock pot well with nonstick cooking. Or, you could wipe it down with some vegetable oil.
Then, combine the eggs, cooked sausage, and shredded cheese in a large mixing bowl and mix up well. Season it with salt and pepper, then pour the egg mixture into your crock pot.
Next, you’ll need to open your can of biscuits and chop the biscuit dough up into bite-sized chunks. Kitchen scissors work great for this, but you can use a kitchen knife, too.
Then, place the biscuit pieces on top of the egg mixture in the slow cooker. Try to make sure they’re fairly evenly spaced.
That’s it for the main breakfast casserole recipe. Just set the crock pot to high and leave the lid on for entire cook time of 2 hours (or 4 hours if on low).
When it’s done, just warm up some canned sausage gravy to pour over each serving. That’s it!
Homemade Sausage Gravy Recipe
If you’d rather make your own gravy, that’s easy, too.
Just melt some butter in a small saucepan and whisk the flour in until it’s combined. Add the milk and some salt and pepper to taste, then stir over medium-high heat until it’s the consistency you want.

What size crock pot did you use for this recipe?
Krissy of B-Inspired Mama says
Great question! This was with a 4-quart crock pot.
Mary Streul says
I have a 6q and it takes 1 1/2 hours
But my crockpot is newer. I would after hour check on it. actually it’s in my crockpot now!
But I would definitely if you have a larger one start keeping eye on it after hour.
You can make your own gravy but you can use the Can sausage gravy. Either way is. Good
Carrie says
Do you pour the gravy mix on the mixture to cook, or pour it in the crock pot when everything is done or save it and just put it on the servings?
Krissy of B-Inspired Mama says
You make the gravy separate and pour it over just before serving. Hope you like it!
Mary Streul says
No after you get your plate then you
Can put as much gravy over it you want
Hope this helps!!! It’s so easy to cook ppl think you worked hard on it lol.
Zayne Lanier says
Has anyone tried adding frozen hashbrowns to this?
Mary Streul says
I’ve not but that sounds good actually
Humm you have me thinking I might try it
Stephanie says
Can you freeze any leftovers and serve later?
Krissy of B-Inspired Mama says
I’m honestly not sure! You would have to experiment with this. Sorry, I can’t help.
Lynn says
Can you cook it on low over night?
Krissy of B-Inspired Mama says
I’m honestly not sure. You would have to try it. Sorry!
Jolene says
So I am assuming you make the gravy on the stove first then add the rest in the crockpot?
Krissy of B-Inspired Mama says
Yes, or use canned gravy.
Amanda says
If I double this recipe will it cook fine in my crock pot? Do I need to double the time it takes to bake/cook?
Krissy of B-Inspired Mama says
I’m honestly not sure. The only problem you would probably have would be the biscuits cooking well. But, you could bake them separately to serve with it.
Dee says
How many does this recipe serve? I be got about 65 to serve?
Krissy of B-Inspired Mama says
Hi Dee! By estimation, I would say 8-10. And that seems typical of crockpot casserole recipes when I checked into it. Hope it works out for you!
Sue says
I’m confused about the eggs. Do you scramble them first or lightly mix them with the sausage & cheese?
Krissy of B-Inspired Mama says
Nope – no scrambling. Just mix the eggs, sausage, and cheese together and pour into the crockpot. 🙂
Bethany says
I made this wrong the first time and it still came out great! I prepared this for a work pot luck. I browned my sausage ahead of time and stored it in the fridge. Then when I got to work I dumped everything right in my casserole crockpot gravy and cheese and all (I used the canned gravy). It took longer, probably 3.5hours. It tasted great!! I’m going to try making it the correct way next time 🙂
Krissy of B-Inspired Mama says
Cool! I’m glad it worked out for you that way!
KayRay Sutton says
Could I use frozen crescent rolls instead of biscuits
Krissy of B-Inspired Mama says
I’m sure you could! Sounds delicious to me!
Hannah says
i made this for dinner tonight and it was super yummy!! my bf and i loved it! i think we ate a little too much haha thanks for the awesome recipe 🙂
Krissy of B-Inspired Mama says
Awesome! Glad to hear it!
Michele says
If u use the already made sausage gravy can u just pour it over top and cook in crock pot?
Krissy @ B-Inspired Mama says
I would say so. 🙂
Laura says
Should the canned gravy go on top of biscuits before or after sausage egg mixture is cooked?
Krissy @ B-Inspired Mama says
It would go on the individual servings of the casserole after it’s all done cooking.
Hannah says
So do you let it sit overnight then turn the crockpot on in the morning?
Krissy @ B-Inspired Mama says
You could have it all set and have the crock in the fridge overnight. But you would want to be careful to let it come to room temp before cooking it or your crock might crack. It’s probably best to just throw it together in the morning.
Dana Rodriguez says
That looks so good! I use my crockpot a lot so I will be trying this soon!
Krissy @ B-Inspired Mama says
Let me know what you think if you do!
Mystii Glover says
Biscuits were nowhere near done after 2.5 hours on high. Popped the dish into a 350 degree oven for 15 minutes. Biscuits rose, and browned. Added the gravy and a cheese sprinkle. Delicious!!
Krissy @ B-Inspired Mama says
I’m sorry they didn’t cook for you! But glad it turned out after all. 🙂
