Explore Circles with this Easy Summer Craft!

I’m super excited to do some crafting with the kids this summer.  With prepping to put our house on the market, we’ve gotten our arts and crafts supply area all organized, too.  I’m loving how much easier it is to find supplies for quick crafting.  But for this summer craft we found one of the supplies right in our kitchen: Glad Press’n Seal.  Here’s how we used it to make a pretty Circles Suncatcher…

Supplies:

  • Glad Press’n Seal
  • a circle embroidery hoop
  • tissue paper in the colors of your choice
  • circle punches of various sizes
  • scissors

Steps:

Use the circle punches to cut out a variety of colorful circles from your tissue paper.  I cut out the tissue paper circles ahead of time for my J.C.  But you could also get your little one involved in punching them out.  You’d have to gauge their ability and your time.

Place a sheet of Glad Press’n Seal tacky side up in the embroidery hoop.  (The hoop helps to stabilize the Press’n Seal and make it easier to work with.)  Let your little one apply the circles to the tacky Press’n Seal.

Once your child is finished applying the circles, carefully remove the outside hoop and press another sheet of Press’n Seal tacky side down over the other Press’n Seal sheet of circles.  Let your child help press and smooth them together.  Place the outside hoop over the Press’n Seal circle art and bottom hoop and tighten.  Use scissors to trim the excess Press’N Seal from the back on the embroidery hoop.

Add ribbon to the top of the hoop and hand your colorful Circles Suncatcher in a sunny window!

We’ve done sticky collages and suncatcher crafts before with other materials, but I definitely have a new favorite material in Glad Press’n Seal.  First of all, it’s already in my kitchen (for keeping our food fresh) which makes it convenient.  Second, it’s perfectly tacky but not as sticky or hard to work with as other materials.  And I’m excited to experiment with how it adheres to other materials (wood, paper, plastic, etc.) also.

I see some more Press’n Seal crafting coming on this summer!  If you don’t already have Glad Press’n Seal in your kitchen, grab some from Walmart today to try this fun summer craft with the kids.

Have you done a summer craft with the kids yet?  Do they like to craft in the summertime?  Have you ever used Press’n Seal for crafting?  I’d love to hear about it in the comments below!
