Everybody knows… kids love fun food! You know, when their snack looks like a flower or their sandwich is cut into a neat shape. Not only does it make eating fun, it might even entice them to try new foods, too!
So, I get a little fancy with my kids’ snacks and meals sometimes. But, if we’re being honest, most of the time it’s hard to find the time.
But, holidays are the perfect time to fit in some fun food for the kids! We usually take holidays a little slower, spending time at home with family, cooking and eating together. So, why not make a new fun food tradition for Easter — a cute breakfast on Easter morning!
A New Family Tradition: Easter Bunny Pancakes!
Plus, your efforts won’t go unappreciated. With this bunny breakfast as an Easter morning tradition, your kids will be reminiscing about those cute bunny pancakes to their kids someday.
Make Cute Easter Bunny Pancakes — Total Time: 5 Minutes!
Sure, we’re usually taking it easy on holiday mornings. But, mama doesn’t want to be slaving in the kitchen, missing all the fun!
So, I’m letting you in on my little secret to make cute Bunny Pancakes in just five minutes.
Easter Bunny Pancakes Hack: Use Frozen Mini Pancakes!
Skip the griddle altogether. No hassle trying to find a large egg, combine wet ingredients with dry ingredients, or stir anything at all! Just grab a box of pre-made frozen mini cakes from the store and you’re good to go.
You can absolutely use your favorite powder pancake mix or buttermilk pancake recipe. But, if you’re not up for all that messy pancake batter, grab a box of frozen mini pancakes instead. Trust me… the kids won’t care once they see the cute bunny shape.
And, once you add the yogurt details, cute candy eyes, sprinkle whiskers, and jelly bean nose, your kids will be so excited to eat their bunny pancakes, they won’t care if they aren’t homemade!
They won’t be telling their friends about how the pancakes were made either. They’ll be telling everyone in earshot how awesome their mom is because she can make Easter Bunny Pancakes!
How to Make 5-Minute Easter Bunny Pancakes:
You can find the full printable bunny pancake recipe below. But, here are the basic steps and some tips and tricks to get you started…
Now, you only need five ingredients: 6 mini pancakes, strawberry yogurt, jelly beans, candy eyeballs, and sprinkles.
First, make the bunny head and body. Place two stacked pancakes in the center of a large dinner plate for the bunny’s head. Then, place another set of two stacked pancakes just below and to the right of the center ones, at around the 5:00 position if you think of the plate as a clock, for the bunny’s body.
Next, make the bunny feet. Cut one mini pancake in half. (Pro Tip: Try using kitchen scissors to cut the pancakes!) Then, stack the two halves and place them cut-edge down just below and to the left of the body pancakes for the bunny’s foot.
Then, make the bunny ears. Cut the last mini pancake in half. Then, position each half with cut-edges toward one another above the head pancakes for the bunny’s ears.
Now, Bring Your Pancake Bunny to Life!
First, add strawberry yogurt details. Just add some on each bunny ear and on the bottom of the bunny foot. Then, add a dollop in the center of the face and where the bunny tail would be on the right side of the body. (Pro Tip: You can use a small spatula, but for more control, use a pastry bag or plastic zip-top storage bag with 1/4″ of one corner cut off.) The strawberry yogurt adds enough moisture to skip the melted butter and maple syrup. But, my kids wanted to add their syrup after they saw their cute pancake bunnies anyway.
Next, add your jelly beans. Place a pink jelly bean bunny nose in the center of the yogurt on the bunny’s face. Then, add a row of green jelly beans below your pancake bunny. And, position a few sunny yellow and orange jelly beans around him, if you’d like.
Then, make your bunny eyes. Simply position two candy eyeballs above the bunny nose, of course.
And, finally, add some whiskers. Carefully place a few blue or purple sprinkles on each side of the nose for bunny whiskers.
You could make your Easter bunny pancakes before the kids wake up to surprise them. Or, consider letting the kids help make them their own!
Want to Make Your Pancakes from Scratch?
If you insist on making your own fluffy pancakes, here are some great kid-approved pancake recipes to try:
- Cinnamon Bun Pancakes (from Sugar Spice & Glitter)
- Almond Oat Pancakes (from Homegrown Friends)
- Best Ever Gluten Free Pancakes (from The Soccer Mom Blog)
Also, consider using a silver dollar pancake pan to make evenly shaped mini pancakes for the perfect bunnies. And, you can always make your pancakes ahead of time, too. Just wrap your finished pancakes in freezer paper and store in an airtight container in the fridge or freezer until Easter morning. Then, you can still make Easter Bunny Pancakes for Easter breakfast with little prep time.
Easter Bunny Pancake Variations:
Now, here are some alternative ingredients and bunny pancake ideas you can try…
Whipped Cream Instead of Yogurt — If you don’t have yogurt on hard (or just want something sweeter), try using whipped cream or whipped topping.
Chocolate Chip Eyes — If you can’t get your hands on candy eyeballs, use chocolate chips for bunny eyes instead.
Green Coconut Grass — Skip the green jelly beans and use green coconut for grass instead! To dye it, add some shredded coconut to a zip-top plastic bag. Then, add a few drops of green food coloring, seal the bag, and give it a good shake.
Healthier Bunny Pancakes with Fruit — Make your Easter bunny pancakes a little healthier by using fruit in place of some of the candy. Try banana slices in place of the yogurt. Blueberries for bunny noses. And, strawberries cut into triangles for a little bowtie!
Simple Bunny Butt Pancakes — If you’re making your own pancakes and want to make the kids giggle, try making some silly bunny butts instead. Just use one large pancake and two mini pancake feet. Then, asd a whipped cream tail in the center!
