A Cute Shape Turkey Craft for Preschoolers
What I love most about this turkey craft for preschoolers is how the supplies are so basic. I mean… what preschool mom or teacher doesn’t have construction paper and glue sticks
?
You can cut the basic shapes, beaks, and wattles for your turkey craft on your own, but this free printable template makes your turkey shape cutting super easy.
You could even use the template to make stencils from thicker cardstock or cardboard
so older kids can trace and cut out their own shapes.
Once you have the turkey shapes all cut out, help your little one bring their shape turkeys to life by gluing on beaks, wattles, and googly eyes.
This is the perfect time to name your turkeys based on their basic shape: “Circle Turkey,” “Rectangle Turkey,” and “Triangle Turkey,” for example.
Then, your preschooler will have fun gluing shape feathers onto her shape turkeys. You could challenge an advanced preschooler to match the shape feathers to the shape turkey faces (i.e. triangle feathers on the “Triangle Turkey”), or encourage creativity and allow your little one to add the colorful paper feathers any way she would like.
Ready to Make your own Shape Turkeys?
Here are the detailed steps to make your own cute shape turkeys…
Shape Turkey Craft
Materials
- 6 sheet construction paper (1 sheet each of tan, red, yellow, orange, green, blue)
- 1 washable school glue stick (or school glue)
- 1 pair safety scissors
- 1 pencil
- 6 googly eyes
- 1 Shape Turkey Template (optional)
Steps
- If using the template, use scissors to cut out the shapes from the printed template. The template includes three basic shapes for the turkey bodies – square, circle, and triangle. The other shapes are for the beak, wattle, and tail feathers. Use the template pieces to trace and cut out one set of turkey body shapes from tan paper, three wattles from red paper, three beaks from yellow paper, and multiple feathers from various colors of paper. If not using the template, freehand cut similar shapes as above.
- Use a glue stick to attach a wattle and a beak onto each turkey body shape.
- Use a glue stick, if needed, to attach a set of googly eyes above the beak on each turkey body shape.
- Use a glue stick to attach the bottom of the tail feathers to the upper backside of each shape turkey.
