A Mask Craft for Kids that’s Perfect for Summer!

Summer is the perfect time to learn about oceans and ocean animals.  We have four 4 year-old children who all find sharks pretty fascinating.  They also love sunglasses and wear them around the house while they play.  I decided to combine these two interests by transforming their sunglasses into a shark mask craft for kids. They were quite excited! Here’s how you can do it, too…

Shark Mask Craft for Kids

Supplies:

  • children’s sunglasses
  • grey construction paper
  • white construction paper
  • large googley eyes
  • white glue
  • clear tape
  • black permanent marker

Steps:

Draw the shark head onto the grey paper.  Ours is about 4.5 by 6 inches. On the bottom half of the head trace the lenses of the sunglasses and then draw the mouth all the way to the edges of the paper with the black pen.

Color in the mouth around the sunglasses’ lenses with the black pen and then the lens shapes out leaving two holes in the mask.

Cut the head out of the paper and cut a nose shape out. Cut about twenty-two triangles out of the white paper for teeth.  We used twelve on the bottom and ten on the top.  Glue on the teeth to that they overlap on the edges.

Glue the nose on in the center, slightly overlapping the teeth.  Glue on the eyes.  Tape the mask onto the back of the sunglasses in the center and on both sides.
