This type of cookie-cutter craft (where the finished craft always looks the same) goes against everything I learned while becoming an art teacher. But, I’ve learned as a mama that every parent loves a sweet handprint craft from their child! Plus, every toddler and preschooler loves making a handprint craft — cookie-cutter or not!
A Cute St. Patrick’s Day Handprint Craft for Kids
This cute and colorful St Patricks Day handprint craft transforms your kid’s hand print into a magical rainbow emerging from a leprechaun’s pot of gold. Check it out…
Colorful Handprint Rainbow & Pot of Gold Craft
This handprint craft takes typical preschool handprint art to another level. It turns your child’s hand into a colorful handprint rainbow!
While this rainbow handprint is cool on its own, the addition of some chocolate gold coin wrappers and construction paper make this the cutest handprint craft for St. Patrick’s Day.
Pot of Gold St Patricks Day Handprint Craft Instructions:
Rainbow & Pot of Gold St Patrick's Day Handprint Craft
Tools
- plastic cup (for water)
Materials
- 2 sheet construction paper (1 black, 1 white)
- washable paint (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple)
- washable school glue
- 4-5 chocolate gold coins (for foil wrappers)
- paint pen (white)
Steps
- Paint rainbow stripes on the child's hand, from the base of the palm to the tip of each finger, in the order of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple).
- While the paint is still wet, press the child's hand down onto the top half of a piece of white construction paper, with fingers pointing up. Allow to dry.
- Unwrap the chocolate gold coins and glue the foil wrappers onto the white construction paper at the base of the handprint, overlapping them a bit. (Eat the chocolate!)
- Use scissors to cut a circular pot shape out of black construction paper, and glue it onto the white construction paper at the base of the gold coin wrappers.
- Use a white paint pen to write "Happy St. Patrick's Day!" on the pot of gold.

Hi! I’m sorry to post this here, but I couldn’t find a way to email you. I’m a staff writer at adoption.com. I’m writing an article on St. Patrick’s day crafts that adoptive families can send to their children’s birth parents. I would like to feature this article. This would entail me using one of the images from your site and linking to your article. Do I have your permission? Thank you!
Krissy @ B-Inspired Mama says
Of course. Thank you for asking. Now I’m off to see how I can make contacting me via email easier. 🙂

Just did this w/ my 1 and 3 year olds and it was tons of fun!! Plus, we had a lesson in primary colors and mixing them to make other colors.

FANTASTIC!!! We did a non-paint version and the kiddos enjoyed really enjoyed it. THANKS so much for the idea!
Krissy Sherman Bonning says
Oh, I could see that, too. Maybe cutting a hand out and then letting them color the rainbow stripes on it? How did you do it?
Anonymous says
I have done a versino of this when I worked with preschoolers but without the chocolate candy. Just gold circles.. or the best that they could cut them out. I believe in a child doing his own work no matter how it comes out.. thanks for sharing..
