Easy 4th of July Craft: A Stars and Stripes Crown
First, let me disclose… I found inspiration for the paper plate crown part of this 4th of July craft from my blogging mama friend, Jodi, of Meaningful Mama. She’s always sharing such creative ideas. I love how her kids used buttons to decorate their crowns. Here’s how we adapted her crown craft into a perfectly patriotic 4th of July craft…
Supplies:
Steps:
First, use a ruler and pencil to draw 4 straight lines, intersecting in the middle, across the bottom of the plate. Kind of like marking out the slices of a pizza. The lines don’t have to be perfect. But they should NOT go all the way to the edges of the plate. (We only used the marker so you could see it better in the photos.)
Then, carefully use the scissors to poke a hole where the lines intersect. Or you could also slightly fold the plate in the center and snip along one of the lines with the scissors. Continue to use the scissors to cut along all lines. But DO NOT cut to the edges of the plate. Make sure to leave a good inch or more uncut around the edge of the plate.
Next, flip the plate over, and fold each cut triangular shape up to transform the plate into a crown.
You could stop here and start decorating with star stickers. But we decided to jazz ours up a bit by snipping along the rim and folding every other portion down, too.
Either way, now your crown is ready for its glittery stars!
I used some glittery foam star stickers I found at the store. But any patriotic stickers would work, really.
My kids worked together to add every star sticker we had to make our crown super glitzy!
This 4th of July craft is perfect for kids of all ages. It’s easy enough for big kids to do all on their own. Or you could do the cutting and folding and let younger kids – even toddlers – do the decorating with stickers. It’s sure to be a hit at any patriotic celebration!
