As an educator and parent, I’ve found preschool learning activities that activate multiple senses are often the most successful. Since kids have unique learning styles, it makes sense that when they use a sense related to their learning style (such as the sense of hearing for an auditory learner), they’re more likely to have an authentic learning experience and retain that information.

A Fun Sensory Letter B Activity for Preschool Learning

That’s why I love incorporating sensory elements into preschool learning activities. And, why I love the SeeHearDo Company’s Amazing Action Alphabet and their “Bubble Blowing Bear” Letter B Activity for preschoolers!

About The Amazing Action Alphabet

The SeeHearDo Company was kind enough to send us their Alphabet Sing-A-Long CD, Alphabet Activities Workbook, and Alphabet Flipbook. This program is full of sensory-rich preschool alphabet activities. The book has a complete preschool lesson plan for each letter of the alphabet that gets kids to “See Hear Do” with a clever rhyme, a fun activity or craft, and even snacks.

Even more fun, the letters themselves are formed into animals whose name starts with that letter. According to the book itself…

“The Amazing Action Alphabet takes the already familiar look of an animal and bends it into the shape of an abstract letter. Now the shape of the letter is no longer abstract because the animal, which the child recognizes, makes the shape of the letter. This gives life to the letter, so it is no longer just black lines and circles on white paper. Once the child recognizes the letter as an animal, it makes sense to give it a name. And the name of the animal is the name of the letter; for example, the name of the alligator is A. Now that each letter has a name and the child can easily recognize the animal in the shape of a letter, an amusing story gives a legitimate reason for why the letter makes the sound that it does. Then we combine this with an approach that lets children see, hear, and do, engaging multiple senses and learning styles into the most powerful method for learning and retention we know.”

Bubble Blowing Bear Letter B Activity for Preschool

We chose to do the activity for letter B, “B is for Bubble Blowing Bear,” which incorporates the preschool themes of bears and bubbles. Both an uppercase and lowercase letter B are in the shape of a friendly brown bear blowing bubbles. And the accompanying rhyme explains, “B the bear blows bright blue bubbles. ‘B-b-b is the sound she makes while blowing into her bubble blower.”

A photo of a bear-shaped letter B craft with a big letter B and googly eyes.

Check out the “B is for Bubble Blowing Bear” rhyme in this video. I love how it includes the sound of the letter B: “B-b-b.” Watch the video with your preschooler or use it to learn the rhyme yourself before doing the letter b activity with your child.

“B is for Bubble Blowing Bear” Art Activity

After learning the cute letter B rhyme and practicing the letter B sound, we got started on the fun craft: a cute bubble-painted bear craft! As a former art teacher, I’ve done bubble painting before, but I wouldn’t have even thought to use it as an activity for letter B. But it’s such a fun way to explore letter B words (blowing, bubbles) while also using lots of senses. Plus, it’s super easy and so magical for little kids to see how the bubbles make circle bubble prints on the paper.

Now, using the color blue for the bubble paint is essential for this letter B activity. And, the Amazing Action Alphabet Workbook has a page inside with a bear for your preschooler to bubble paint on. But, since the workbook can be hard to come by, I’ve created free printable templates for you to use, which you can download below. Or, you can simply bubble paint on a plain sheet of construction paper without the bear.

Bubble Blowing Bear Letter B Activity Instructions

All you need for the basic Bubble Blowing Bear letter B art activity is: a shallow bowl of water, some dish soap, washable blue paint, a straw, and the free Bubble Blowing Bear Printable Page (or a piece of white paper).

First, add a squirt of dish soap and some blue paint to the bowl of water and have your preschooler use their straw or a teaspoon to mix it all up.

Next, have your child practice blowing through the straw without sucking air through it. Once they’ve got the hang of it, have them put the end of the straw in the blue soapy water and blow air through it to create blue bubbles in the bowl. They will love seeing the big blue bubbles billow up and out of the bowl!

Now, help your preschooler place their printable page (or piece of paper) bear-side down onto the bubbles, then lift it off to see the blue bubble prints on the page. Let your kiddo blow more bubbles and print some more until their bear is covered in blue bubble prints.

You could leave the bubble-painted bear as-is or decorate it. Just let it dry completely first. Help your preschooler write a big letter B on their bear with a black marker. Then, invite them to decorate their bear with googly eyes and your choice of kids art supplies, like crayons, markers, or maybe even some letter B stickers. Finally, help your preschooler cut their bear out with scissors and use a glue stick to glue it onto black construction paper or another color of construction paper.

About this Sensory Letter B Activity

This clever letter B activity for preschool activates so many senses! Blowing through the straw helps kids regulate their interoceptive and proprioceptive sensory systems. Manipulating the paper and popping bubbles with their little fingers utilizes their tactile sensory system. And, saying and hearing lots of letter B words and sounds activates their auditory system.

Using all of these senses during this multi-sensory letter B activity will surely help preschoolers learn the letter B. Plus, they’ll have an adorable “Bubble Blowing Bear” letter B craft to hang up and look back on to review their letter learning.

Hi, Cheree! The Amazing Action Alphabet Flipbook has it, however, I see it’s at a crazy-high price on Amazon right now. So, I added a video to the post of someone reading it with their child. Hope this helps!
