Creative Drink Covers Make a Fun Summer Kids Craft!

Drink Cover Summer Kids Craft from The Usual Mayhem at B-InspiredMama.com

With the onset of summer weather come all the nasty stinging flying insects like wasps and hornets that love to join in on picnics! I thought that there must be a better way to keep them out of our drinks than our usual semi-hysterical shrieking and wild arm-flinging, so we did a fun Summer kids craft and made our own lid covers. That it used up paper scraps was an added bonus!

Steps:

Take the cup you plan to use…..in our case I am using up paper cups but it could be anything. Trace a circle around it, and add a little tab before you or your child cut it out.

Tape the cover to the cup with the tab.

Now get out whatever paper scraps you have on hand and let the kids use snowflake cutting techniques to create a masterpiece. My son has been interested in Monet’s paintings lately, so he went with a water lilies theme.

Cut a slit into each layer at the middle and slide the straw through. Now you have a wasp-resistant cup and no chance that one person’s cup will be mistaken for another.

I love that this Summer kids craft is both cute and functional.  Thanks, Erin!

This is a wonderful idea even though we don’t have as many flying annoyances where we live. These cup covers turned out so beautiful.

I know! She did a great job. They’d be cute, bugs or not!
