I’m Cool With Sippy Cups..

Yep.  I’m not ashamed to admit that even my 7 year old still uses a sippy cup sometimes.  Well… pretty often actually.  Yes; I’ve gotten sideways glances from strangers, passive aggressive comments from well-meaning grandmas, and even a pediatrician asking him directly, “Why do you have a sippy cup?!”  Here’s our answer:

Why I'm Okay With My Kids Still Using Sippy Cups [#sponsored by Playtex] at B-Inspired Mama

Sippy Cups Help Keep Me Sane!

I know they say not to cry about it, but frankly… I just don’t have time for spilled milk these days.  And while I do offer them opportunities to use real drinking cups at family meals, the sippy cups are just simpler and easier and CLEANER for our crazy day-to-day activities.  They’re insulated to keep drinks cool.  They’re leak and spill-proof to keep my floors and furniture clean.  And I’m pretty sure they won’t be taking them with them on their first dates.   BONUS: Sucking from the sippy cup spout helps my kids with Sensory Processing Disorder get proprioceptive input and regulate their sensory systems!

Our Favorite Sippy Cups:

To make it fair, the cups we use just don’t seem that much like typical sippy cups anyway.  Since the kids were babies, we’ve always loves Playtex cups.  J.C. (age 2.5) still likes the soft spout training cups.  It’s what he prefers – and it’s not a battle I care to take on at the moment.  So I’m okay with that.  But Sawyer and Priscilla (ages 7.5 and 5.5 respectively) love our new TravelTime Sport Spout Cups.  We tried other water bottles and sports cups in the past, but they always end up leaking or are difficult to clean.  So we stick with Playtex.
