Materials:

  • Cereal Box
  • Scissors
  • Marker
  • Glue
  • Washable Paint

Steps:

Step 1: Unfold a cereal box.

Step 2: Draw an oval shape for the egg on the inside (blank canvas) of the cereal box.

Step 3: Use the glue bottle to draw a design on the egg. Think about different types of line such as straight, zig-zag and wavy. Try repeating lines to create a pattern. When finished drawing, let the glue dry completely (we left ours sit overnight to dry).

Step 4: Paint the egg and let dry.

Step 5: Cut out the egg shape. If you wish you can add more color and pattern with permanent markers. Once finished, punch a hole and hang with string.

Let your child experiment and lead the recycled art project. It may take your child a little practice to get comfortable drawing with the glue bottle. Once finished let your child help hang and display their Easter eggs. By including your child in the decisions about displaying their artwork you are providing opportunities for boosting their self confidence.

This is a lovely recycling project for my girls! I’m sure they’ll like this idea. We are recently often talking about recycling, reusing old items and minimizing waste, because they are learning this at school and it seems to be quite important for them. We’ve decided to make a “recycled Easter” this year and without buying any decoration, to create it from what we have. Thanks for the nice idea!
