Pi Day Math Fun

Did you know that today, 3/14, is an important day?  It is; it’s Pi Day!  Today’s the day that math geeks and general nerdy types (like me!) celebrate Pi…

“Pi (Greek letter “π”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159.  Pi has been calculated to over one trillion digits beyond its decimal point. As an irrational and transcendental number, it will continue infinitely without repetition or pattern.” source

Celebrate Pi Day with Math Fun and Marie Callender's Pie at B-InspiredMama.com

After a long week with the kids, I just don’t have it in me to bake.  So we’re celebrating Pi Day this year with a Marie Callender’s Pie.  We chose Cherry Crunch and it was delicious!  You can choose yours (and even rate them) here.  And you can find fun Pi Day ideas at the Marie Callender’s blog.

Since my kids are a little young yet to understand the math concept of Pi, I decided to use our pie to give them an introduction to simple fractions.

Will you be celebrating Pi Day? If you’d like to do it with a Marie Callender’s pie, make sure to use this coupon for $1.50 off a frozen pie!
