I’m a morning lunch packer. I know it makes sense to pack the kids’ lunch boxes the night before so they’re ready to go. But I’ve just never been able to get in the habit. And honestly, I always worry about soggy sandwiches, too.
But with J.C. starting Kindergarten this year, bringing our total up to 3 packed lunches, I know I need to make this process easier. (Yes, that third lunch box puts me over the lunch box packing edge. We all have our limitations!)
It’s time to get the kids packing their own lunches. I know they’re capable of this responsibility. They just need some guidance. And I’ve got just the tools to help…
Some FREE Printables for a Balanced Kid-Packed Lunch!
Since we use Rubbermaid LunchBlox® kits for our packed lunches, I created some corresponding Kid-Packed Lunch Printables to help the kids know what foods to pack in the containers of their LunchBlox® kits.

You see, Rubbermaid LunchBlox® Sandwich and LunchBlox® Kids kits
make it easy peasy for anyone to have “Lunch Perfectly Packed.”
Each kit includes modular containers that snap together in multiple configurations to fit perfectly in a variety of lunch boxes and lunch bags. And the containers are perfectly portioned for lunch foods – even including handy measurements on the sides of each container.
Now I’m not saying my kids will be perfectly measuring their portions. But I included rectangles and squares on the Kid-Packed Lunch Printables to coordinate with the rectangle and square containers in the kids. So the kids can look at the printable guide to know which food group or type of food goes into each sized/shaped container. That way the kids know with one quick look at their Kid-Packed Lunch Printable, the large rectangle container gets packed with a sandwich or protein, not a treat!
I keep our printed, laminated printables right on the fridge so the kids can refer to them as they pack their lunch in the morning. And with the printables being laminated, I can use a dry erase marker
to make notes of specific foods available or any changes for that week or day.
Easy peasy. And I know the kids’ packed lunch will be balanced and not all treats!
I created a few different printables to work best with the different Rubbermaid LunchBlox® kits available. And some without food group labels, so you can use a marker to customize those to your preferences, too if you’d rather.

More to Love About Rubbermaid LunchBlox®:
Rubbermaid LunchBlox® kits aren’t just for kids. They have a variety of kids with varying containers and options. We have both the Rubbermaid LunchBlox® Kids Kit and the Rubbermaid LunchBlox® Sandwich Kit
. The Sandwich Kit is my favorite. It includes 2 Snack Containers, 1 Side Container, 1 Sandwich Container, and 1 Medium Blue Ice™. Our sandwich container has never seen a sandwich that doesn’t fit. All containers always fit neatly in my kids’ varying lunch boxes. And we’ve never had trouble with lids coming off or leaking.
You can also get LunchBlox® Salad and LunchBlox® Entree kits
. Imagine the endless configurations of containers. Some large containers even have drop-in dividers for more options.
All kits include snap-in Blue Ice™ to freeze and include in your lunch to keep it chilled (for up to 4 hours). And all containers are microwave, dishwasher, and freezer safe, and BPA free, too. Perfect for this dishwasher-loving mama! Oh – and the containers stack nicely and stay organized in the cupboard, too.
Another Rubbermaid lunch solution to try: Rubbermaid Fasten+Go™ containers are great for mom and dad’s packed lunches. The modular system features an outer lid that snaps to the bottom base, keeping all inner containers secure while on-the-go. Just pack, fasten the strap, and go! No lunch bag needed. Pretty cool, I think!
