Do You Set Goals for Yourself?

I’ve never been one for New Year’s Resolutions, but I’ve been especially self-reflective this New Year.  My crazy mama brain has been spinning with ways that I can promote positive change in myself, my family, and my business in 2014.  So when my sweet friend MaryAnne of MamaSmiles invited fellow bloggers to join her in sharing Monthly Goals for 2014, I knew that it was perfect for me.  What better way to promote that positive change than with small monthly goals and a community of other supportive mamas?  So throughout 2014, on the 31st of each Month, I will be sharing my “Monthly Mama Goals” for the month ahead.  Here are my goals for January…

January’s Monthly Mama Goals

I’ve decided to make just one goal for each “category” of my life.  Might not seem like much, but it keeps it simple and manageable.  I’m going to try to make goals that are measurable, but I’m not stressing about it.  I’m just shooting from the heart.  Here goes…

Personal Goal

  • I generally shy away from religious or political topics here, but I’m just going to go for it, Mamas.  I’ve been agnostic for nearly 10 years, but have been feeling pulled to explore my spirituality (possibly a return to my Christian roots?) for a couple of months now.  So in Janurary, I will visit two different local churches: the local United Methodist Church and a Unitarian Universalist Church.

Parenting Goal

  • A couple of months ago, the kids and I started using ChoreMonster to set and track a chore and reward system.  They loved it!  But for some reason, we got out of habit.  So in January, I will set up ChoreMonster again to get the kids in a better routine of helping around the house.

Homeschooling Goal

  • Did I tell you that we’re starting homeschool next week?!  The kids and I are so excited, and I’m sure a post with more details on that decision is to come.  But one big goal I have for our homeschooling is to connect with other homeschoolers for mama support and some kiddo social interaction.  So in January, I will find and meet (in person) with a local homeschooling group.

B-Inspired Mama Goal

  •  I’ve been really mulling over this one.  I’m not quite sure where I’m going with it, but I’m feeling some big changes coming to B-Inspired Mama.  (Any suggestions?!)  I pretty sure that some of those changes will include connecting and collaborating more with other (AWESOME!) mama bloggers.   So in January, I will participate in two (or more!) collaborative projects with other bloggers.

Whew – that’s it.  Doesn’t seem like much to you, but it’s HUGE to me!  I’ll let you know on January 31st how I make out.

Love this idea! I’m going to set up some goals of my own. Major goal for 2014 is to do what makes me happy (that might seem rather silly but it’s huge for me). Monthly goals just may be a perfect tool for me.
Thanks for the inspiration and good luck with your goals!

I love how you simplfied it to one goal in each category and you made very clear goals with an outcome. I wish you luck in homeschooling. We just started in November and it has been a whirlwind. We took all of November and December to find out interest and what worked for us. I look forward to following along in 2014!

Thanks, Danya! I think it’s really going to help that the goals are “bite-size.” And I’m sure I’ll be looking to you with my homeschooling questions!
