“Mix Up a Moment” Making Football Brownie Cupcakes!
I might not be a big football fan, but I am a big indoor-family-time-on-cold-winter-days fan. So when The J.M Smucker Company invited me to “mix up a [game day] moment” with the kids using Pillsbury™ Brownie Mixes and Frosting from Walmart, it was an easy “ABSOLUTELY!” In fact, I think it will be a new football game day tradition for us; Cliff watching the game on the couch while the kids and I mix up a batch of game day brownies. Here’s how we put a football themed spin on some brownie cupcakes…
Easy Football Brownie Cupcakes to Make with the Kids
First, of course, I stocked up on some Pillsbury™ Brownie Mixes and Frosting from our local Walmart. We chose the classic Pillsbury™ Chocolate Fudge Brownie Mix and Pillsbury™ Creamy Supreme® Vanilla Frosting for our game day treats. But there are lots of yummy choices available – from Dark Chocolate to Mocha Fudge. I need to get better at keeping a stockpile of brownie mixes and frosting in the cupboard so we have them ready to go.
Then we mixed up the brownies according to the directions on the box. Always easy – requiring just water, oil, and eggs – making it perfect for the kids to help with.
Instead of baking our brownies in a cake pan, we decided to make them easy to serve by baking them in muffin tins.
We poured the brownie batter equally between 12 shiny foil muffin tin liners and baked according to the box’s oven temperature and lowest time recommendation. Perfect!
After the brownie cupcakes were out of the oven and cooled completely, it was time for our favorite part: frosting!
We just added some green food coloring to our white Pillsbury™ Creamy Supreme® Vanilla Frosting to make it a nice football field green color. A plain old butter knife worked perfect for smoothing some green frosting atop each cupcake. A little trick I discovered: hold the frosting and knife still and spin the cupcake with your other hand for a nice smooth top. The brown brownie peeking out from under the green frosting almost looks like earth beneath the green turf, doesn’t it?!
Finally, we used a decorating bag with a simple round decorating tip – filled with plain white frosting – to add football field yard lines and numbers to the top of each cupcake. If you don’t have an icing bag and tip, you could also use a plastic storage baggie with a small hole cut off one corner.
Now our Football Brownie Cupcakes are ready to enjoy during the game!
