Make Christmas Cupcakes Awesome with Candy Holly!

I’ve discovered a fun new way to jazz up my cupcakes: crafting cute cupcake toppers with Airheads!  I never realized how versatile the taffy candy is for crafting.  But it was surprisingly easy to use for crafting cupcake toppers.  Check out the festive holiday holly toppers I made for my Christmas cupcakes…

How to Make Candy Holly for Christmas Cupcakes

Before I got started crafting my cupcake toppers, I grabbed a piece of parchment paper to work on.  Wax paper would work well too, to keep the sometimes sticky candy from sticking to your table.

I found watermelon flavored Airheads perfect for crafting holly leaves for atop my Christmas cupcakes.  I used a small holly leaf shaped cookie cutter to cut the green bars of candy into holly shapes.  Here’s a trick: rub the bar of candy between your hands for a few seconds before removing it from the package so it’s softer and easier to cut and mold.

Once I had my holly leaves cut out, I just used the edge of the cookie cutter to make leave vein marks on each leaf.  Holly leaves DONE!  Easy peasy.

And red Airheads bites make perfect holly berries.  But if you can’t find the bites, you could also soften a red Airheads bar in the microwave for a few seconds, and roll it into small berries.

Can I tell you a secret?  I added my Airheads-crafted holly toppers to pretty store-bought cupcakes!  I had more fun crafting the cute toppers than I would have baking the cupcakes anyway.  The hardest part of making my Christmas cupcakes?  Keeping the kids from eating my Airheads before I was done crafting with them!

More About Crafting with Airheads:

Airheads comes  in a variety of fruity flavors, colors, and sizes – including regular, mini and big bars and now also bite size pieces.  So there’s no limit to the cupcake toppers and other edible crafts you could make!  For more fun ideas on how to craft with Airheads visit and follow them on Pinterest.  To learn more about Airheads candy visit their website and follow them on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube!
