Butterfly Life Cycle Learning Made FUN with dio!

Butterfly Life Cycle Learning Made FUN with dio and B-InspiredMama.com

I’m so, SO excited to share a new fun tool to inspire learning in you and your kids today.  dio is a cool new creative social media outlet that allows you to create , explore, and share virtual “places” based on just about anything you can imagine up.

“dio places are personal and public spaces filled with pictures, video, text and even interactive objects. Places are arranged spatially so users can travel and explore streets, buildings, houses and cities — just like they can in the real world!”

When I learned about dio, my mind immediately started racing with how I could use it as a learning tool for my kids (or in the classroom if I were still teaching)!  I got right to work making my first dio “place” all about the butterfly life cycle…

Multimedia Butterfly Life Cycle Learning

With dio you can create different “rooms” in your place.  So I started with a room all about caterpillars.  I added some fun caterpillar songs and videos as well as some photos of real caterpillars.  When the kids “enter the room,” they will see all of these options to click on in the upper left corner.  And when they are done in that room, they can see the other rooms they can exit to on the left as well.

I then made a room all about butterflies.  It was so easy to add cute butterfly song and learning videos right from Youtube.  And I found some great creative commons butterfly photos that were easy to upload into my room, too.

Other rooms I made were a Butterfly Life Cycle room with metamorphosis videos and songs, a Very Hungry Caterpillar room with a video of Eric Carle reading his classic caterpillar book, and a Caterpillar and Butterfly Crafts room with some tutorials for cute crafts.  Now I have all of my butterfly life cycle resources all in one place and I can even let the kids explore it on their own, too!  So cool, right?!

Check out my Butterfly Life Cycle Learning place yourself and share it with your kids, too!  And while you’re there, sign up (it’s FREE), follow me (and I’ll follow you!), and try it out by creative a place of your own.  Maybe a learning place like mine, or maybe a place to document a family trip, or to plan an upcoming event; think outside the box, Mama.  And make sure to Like dio on Facebook to stay in the dio loop!

wouldn’t it be wonderful if at the same time the kids could watch a real live butterfly being hatched? I think its always better to tie in the learning with the real life activities
