The Perfect Play Dough Recipe for First Birthday Fun!
Have you been following the “royal baby?” Sweet Prince George celebrated his first birthday on July 22, 2014. And I’m so SO excited to have been asked to help celebrate with Parents magazine! Parents showcased first birthday ideas fit for a prince, and I thought the perfect party activity for tiny tots would be Cupcake Play Dough! Here’s the super simple – and edible – play dough recipe…

My Edible Cupcake Play Dough Recipe
(Inspired by this Create a Flavor Play Dough Recipe from The Tip Toe Fairy.)
Ingredients:
- (1) 16 oz. container of store-bought frosting
- 2 1/4 cups corn starch
- sprinkles
- birthday candles
- cupcake liners
- a couple drops of essential oils to up the “scent-factor” (optional)
(Consider trying Young Living Essential Oils to scent your homemade playdough!)
Steps:
Scoop all of the icing into a large bowl. Add 2 cups of the corn starch and stir with a spoon or spatula. Once it starts to become dough-like, knead on a corn starch covered surface. Sprinkle the rest of the corn starch on and knead in until dough is no longer sticky.
Knead in colorful sprinkles to add more texture or just present the dough with the sprinkles, candles, and cupcake liners for the kids to play with.
While I wouldn’t use it as a snack – this play dough recipe IS made with entirely edible ingredients. So it’s a great option for a first birthday party with littles that still put things in their mouths.
Little hands might get a bit sticky after lots of play, but you can always sprinkle on and knead in some more corn starch. Or just let the littles be messy! It’s fun and great sensory play, too.
