A Wintery Valentine Craft for Kids

We thought we’d put a fun Valentine’s Day spin on our Winter snowflake cutting.  Here’s what we used to make our snowflake valentine craft…

Supplies:

  • coffee filters
  • watercolors, paintbrushes, & a cup of water
  • scissors
  • cardstock
  • double sided adhesive
  • Washable Mod Podge for Kids
  • foam brush
  • white paint marker

How We Made Our Snowflake Hearts:

Snowflake Valentine Craft Picture Tutorial at B-InspiredMama.com

Some tips that might help with your Snowflake Heart Valentine Craft:

  • Try using lots of water and letting paint colors bleed into one another.
  • Let painted snowflakes dry completely before cutting.
  • Fold snowflakes in half first and cut a rough heart shape.
  • Check out this snowflake cutting tutorial if you need help.
  • Save the tiny cut out pieces to Mod Podge down around your snowflake heart.

Here are Some of Our Snowflake Hearts on the Window, too:

Did you cut any snowflakes this winter?  Have you done a Valentine craft yet?  I’d love to hear about it in the comments!

This is cute! Did you put modgepodge on the snowflakes in the window? I had wondered if it would make paper snowflakes stiff and was goin to try it this holiday season but didn’t get arount to it. Of course, it’s still January – maybe I should still try it!

Nope – no mod podge on the window ones. Just taped them up in the window. They’re delicate, but beautiful! 🙂

Just curious, how do you fold the heart to get it to look so cool?

These are so pretty. I’m thinking of doing this with a group of girls I work with at church. We have about an hour to do it – is that possible? With the dry time, etc. I mean, I don’t mind sending them home with a wet card from the modge podge but what about the water color drying??? The other thought is water coloring them for them ahead of time and then letting them do the rest of this. This is a group of 8 and 9 year olds, do you think it’s a good fit for the age group? Thanks!!

Definitely a good fit for the age group, but not enough dry time for the watercolor. Try using markers to color them instead. (Maybe try one ahead of time to test it out.) Or just cut them out of white coffee filters and glue them down onto pink or patterned scrapbooking paper. I’d love to hear how you make out!
