I’m really feeling great since having my surgery.  My recovery has been much quicker than expected.  But I’m so excited to still have some great guest posts scheduled to share with you.  Check out this fun (and simple) pumpkin painting project from Vicky of Mess for Less…

A Fun Spin On Pumpkin Painting Art

I love discovering things I already have at home that my kids can use to create interesting art. The pumpkin painting activity I am going to share with you today was inspired when I was washing the dishes. I looked down at the scrubbing sponge I was using and thought it might make a good pumpkin stamper. With just a few extra items, my kids were able to create cute pumpkin painting art using an everyday item in a new way.

Sponge Pumpkin Painting Art for Kids from Mess for Less at B-Inspired Mama

Fun Sponge Pumpkin Painting

Supplies:

  • Circular scrubbing sponge
  • Orange, green and black paint
  • White construction paper
  • Paint brush
  • Googly eyes
  • Tray or plate for paint
If you don’t already have circular scrubbing sponges you can get those at the dollar store along with the googly eyes we will be using later. I would imagine you can just cut a rectangular sponge you already have into a circle shape and get similar results.
Using Sponges for Kids Pumpkin Painting at B-Inspired Mama
Squirt some orange paint onto the tray and spread it in a circle roughly equal to the size of your sponge.
Have your child dip the sponge in the paint, making sure they cover as much of the surface as possible.
Next, they will push their paint filled sponge onto a piece of white paper. The key here is to make sure they turn their hand clockwise and counter clockwise while holding the sponge on the paper. This will ensure they get a nice circle impression.
You child can make as many as they want on the paper, just make sure to leave room because they will be adding a stem.

When we were finished, we let the pumpkin painting dry for a bit and then returned to add some finishing touches. We used some green paint and made stems.
Then we glued on some googly eyes. My youngest worked hard to pick up the tiny eyes and place them just where she wanted them.
Finally we added a nose and mouth using black paint.
I love how each of my kids made such different expressions on their pumpkins.
I hope you enjoyed this simple pumpkin painting project. Take a look around your house and see what items you already have that can be used in a different way.
