Make Some Paper Snowflakes with the Kids!

Brighten up a dreary, dark, winter day and teach your children how to make paper snowflakes with this colorful snowflake art project inspired by beautiful block quilts. This project is not only easy but requires minimal materials. Your child will be surprised at how easily they can create their own snowflakes. It is a great project for all ages, as even my three year old was able to create her own snowflakes with a little extra assistance. Read below for our paper quilt inspired artwork.

Steps:

Step 1: Take one 4”x4” square paper and fold in half creating a triangle. Fold the triangle in half 2 more times.

Step 2: Cut out shapes along all three sides of the folded triangle. Triangle shapes are a great shape to start cutting for younger artists.

Step 3: Repeat with 3 more sheets of 4” x 4” paper, creating a total of four snowflakes.

Step 4: Glue each snowflake onto a 4” x 4” paper.

Step 5: Arrange each snowflake block on the larger square paper and glue down.

Use Your Paper Snowflakes to Make a Winter Art Quilt!

After teaching your child how to make paper snowflakes, point out how each paper snowflake is unique and different just like real snowflakes. Let your child have fun exploring different color combinations by gluing snowflakes onto different colored papers. Make this a family collaborative project by having each member of the family create their own snowflake block and display the paper snowflakes together in an “art quilt!”
