Try Painting Hands Instead of Faces!

After the kids got their faces painted at a festival a few weeks ago, they kept begging to have it done again.  I got some face paint at the craft store to give them a special painting surprise.  But I wanted to do something just a little more unique than typical face painting.  Instead we decided on painting hands!  It was really fun and so much simpler than it looks.  Here’s how I did it…

4 Steps for Painting Hands to Make Puppets

Steps for Making a Painted Hand Puppet for Kids at B-Inspired Mama

1. Paint a base color and let it dry.

2. Add some patterns with another color and let it dry.

3. Add the eyes, lips, and teeth or fangs and let it dry.

4. Use a fine brush to add black outlines and details.

As you can see, Sawyer wanted a snake.  Priscilla wanted a “rainbow monster princess,” so that was just a little more complicated.  The kids had a blast opening and closing their fingers to make their hand puppets talk and bite.  We’ll definitely be painting hands again.
Do your kids like face paint? Have you ever tried painting hands instead?

Oh, I love this idea! My daughter would also like something rainbow-themed, and I can just imagine the blast they'll have making a puppet show with their hands! I'm going to share this on my PreschoolPowolPackets Facebook page!

This is a really good idea. No we've not done face painting at home but last time they had their faces painted I did think I need to add some face paints to our craft set.

This is SO awesome! What kind of paint did you use? Oh, never mind, I see it's face paint 🙂 Very cool idea.
