Mama Knows Best Button
One thing I’ve learned from the popular From the Mouths of Moms parenting series is that every mom, child, and family is different.  And each mom assesses their own unique experiences, values, and circumstances to make the best parenting decisions possible for their own child and family.  Each mother knows best and tries to do her best for her child.

So why not share and learn from one another; moms helping moms.  Every Tuesday, I will spotlight one mama and her “best” tips for mothers on parenting advice, resources, and products.  This week I am thrilled to welcome one of my long-time blogging mama friends, Amanda from Dirt and Boogers…

Mama Knows Best

Best Pregnancy or Birth Advice
Stay calm and trust the doctors/midwives.  I had a very complicated birth with J, but things turned out great because everyone stayed calm…and I trusted that the doctors and nurses knew what they were doing.

Best Parenting Website
I’m kind of a big fan of Babble.  There is a lot of great information and really funny blog posts over there.  I don’t read it every day, but I get lost in all the fun every time I do head over there.

Best Blog for Moms
I love Aha! Parenting. I agree with a lot with how she sees children and families….not everything…but a lot.  The website is good, but I really love her blog posts.

Best Baby Product
Our video monitor. They can be pricy, but it’s so worth it!  As a babe, J made a ton of noise in his sleep and would sometimes cry out.  It was nice to just roll over, turn on the monitor, and see if he was ok.  No having to get up and run into his room to see what he’s up to.

Best Parenting Advice
Don’t get wrapped up in the Mommy wars and feeling like you’re doing everything wrong. Love your children…that’s the most important thing…and it’s what they will remember the most!

Best Parenting Book
Man, I’ve read several books, and have taken a little bit from each.  I have yet to find one that clicks fully with how I see children.  I’ve finally decided to do what feels right and to chunk the books.

Best Children’s Book
Just one?  I’d have to say Cars and Truck and Things that Go!  by Richard Scarry.  J finds something new every time he reads that book.

Best Kids’ Toy
Currently, J is addicted to Duplos by Lego.  My husband and I usually build a simple structure for him and he builds onto them.  I can see him playing with these blocks for years!

Best Kids’ Game
J is still too young for most kid games, but he’s just found the greatness of Hide and Seek.  There is nothing better than a giggling toddler who’s hiding behind the couch with his feet sticking out the side!

Best Kids’ Craft
J really likes to sit down with paint, paper, and a paint brush.  Simple, but a favorite!

Best Outdoor Play Idea
Fill up containers of water and let them have at it dumping and pouring the water.  Very much like my Colored Water Play activity.

Best Way to Stay Organized
Lots and lots of bins and baskets…and every one of them with a label.  Not only is this great for kids toys, but for organizing your pantry, hall closet, medicine cabinet, and linen closet…to name a few!

Best Way to Keep a Happy Relationship or Marriage
Be respectful towards each others in all situations.   Be respectful of their wishes, time, and things.

Best Family Outing or Vacation
We go to the Zoo/Aquarium all the time!

Best Kid-Friendly Restaurant
We LOVED McAlister’s Deli before we moved, but  we don’t have one around us now….boo 🙁  They have great, healthy meals for kids.  Plus, they bring your food to your table…which is key with a toddler!

Best Family Meal or Recipe
Our favorite meal is Fish Tacos with Mango Salsa.  Seriously tasty!

Best Behavior Management or Discipline Tip
The whisper technique is my favorite, and never fails.  If your kids are yelling or crying loudly, get down on their level and start whispering.  Children will naturally match your tone and volume, so they will quickly quiet down.

Best Way to Spend a Mommy Moment
Coffee and reality TV.  Or, wine with a girlfriend.

Amanda is a military wife, play therapist, and mama of one sweet little boy who isn’t afraid of a little Dirt and Boogers.
