My son, Sawyer, is just finishing up his year of Kindergarten.  I’m so proud to see his accomplishments in reading and writing.  But I’m afraid of him losing those important skills over summer vacation.  While reviewing the Sun Scholars Program, I discovered that sending and receiving mail could be a great opportunity for reading and writing practice.

Mailbox Message in a Bottle 3

Hop on over to Playdough to Plato to see the unusual (and FUN!) way the kids sent a Father’s Day message through the mail to their dad.

This is a darling idea! My oldest finished his last day of Kindergarten yesterday and I just had a discussion with his teacher about the importance of staying on those summer skills. This is a great way to get boys interested in reading and writing. I'm so glad you shared this with us.

It was really fun – now we've challenged their dad to send them something back in a creative container!
