Are your kids Jake and the Never Land Pirate fans? Well, my kids love all things Disney. So, when Disney Junior invited us to celebrate the release of their new movie, Jake and the Never Land Pirates: Battle for the Book!, we were all in!

We didn’t think it could get much better. But, then Disney Junior sent us the new LEGO DUPLO Jake’s Pirate Ship Bucky Building Set.

Now, LEGO blocks alone are great for tactile sensory play. But, we decided to amp up the sensory fun by using our new LEGO Pirate Ship for some pirate sensory play.

Some LEGO Sensory Play, Pirate-Style!

Setting Up Our LEGO Pirate Sensory Play

First, we went on some “treasure hunts” through our local party supply and dollar stores. We found plastic golden coins, plastic jewels, blue glass marble vase filler, and some dried split peas. All of our sensory bin supplies cost less than $10! Plus, they can be used for other sensory bins and play in the future.

I added sensory materials to a medium-size plastic bin. The blue glass marbles were the perfect ocean. And, the green split peas were perfect for our island.

Then, I buried some “treasure” (the plastic gold coins and gems) in the “ocean” and “island” for the kids to find. Sawyer had the creative idea to add his little plastic sea animal toys, too.

While I prepped our pirate themed sensory bin, the kids worked together to build their new LEGO DUPLO Jake’s Pirate Ship Bucky. The big LEGO DUPLO blocks and simplified step-by-step instructions were easy for all of my kids (ages 2 through 7) to use.

Finally, the Kids Set Sail in their LEGO Pirate Sensory Bin!

J.C. got a kick out of the pirate ship’s cannon, launching plastic cannons across the sensory sea. Sawyer had fun integrating his sea creature toys into the imaginative pirate play. And, Priscilla was the best pirate when it came to finding treasure!

This LEGO Pirate Sensory Bin paired with the Jake and the Never Land Pirates: Battle for the Book! movie would make the perfect pirate-themed family movie night. Grab the movie and your own LEGO DUPLO Jake’s Pirate Ship Bucky Building Set from Amazon and set up some sensory pirate fun today! You can increase the imaginative sensory fun by adding in the LEGO DUPLO Jake’s Treasure Hunt set and Never Land Hideout set, too.
