Some Laundry Hacks for Busy Moms!
I’ve shared before that laundry is one of my least-favorite home management tasks. So much so that I’ve delegated the washing and drying to my (ahhhmazing) husband. But I’m stuck with the sorting, folding, and putting away. I tend to put it off for as long as possible with baskets of clean clothes hanging out in the living room until the kids are digging through them when their dresser drawers are bare. But I’m getting better! Some of these laundry hacks from my fellow blogging mamas have helped…

14 Real Life Laundry Hacks for Moms
- Only Do Laundry 3 Days a Week – Set certain days for specific laundry tasks like Katelyn of What’s Up Fagans, She shares her “3 Day Laundry Solution” (along with lots of little laundry tips) so that she isn’t doing laundry all week long.
- Use Picture Labels for Pre-Sorting – Amy of Homeschool Encouragement shares how she and her husband created picture labels for their laundry baskets to help the kids pre-sort before washing.
- Keep Socks Together with Mesh Laundry Bags – Jenae of I Can Teach My Child shares how she uses mess laundry bags to keep the family’s socks corralled. Brilliant!
- Teach Your Kids How to be “Wash Warriors” – Make learning to do laundry fun for the kids by giving it a fun name like Amy of teach mama did. She even shares a free printable “Wash Warriors” poster that will help the kids learn, too.
- Make Sure Clothes are DIRTY! – This might seem like it goes without saying, but it doesn’t. I grew up in a home where with my super-mom we never needed to wear a pair of jeans more than once or use a towel for more than one day. It was a real eye opener when I was out on my own and learned just how much laundry that actually created and that clothes and towels didn’t actually need to be washed until they were dirty!
- Write Reminders on Your Washer & Dryer – Tina of Mother’s Niche shares (among other house cleaning and laundry tips) how to write erasable reminders right on your washer and dryer.
- Keep the Littles Entertained with Laundry Play – Happy Hooligans shares how you can put up a low clothesline for the kids to practice fine motor skills and pretend play; this might be a good way to entertain the little ones while you get the laundry folded!
- Give a Shake Before the Dryer – Kate of Picklebums shares lots of simple laundry tips including giving each piece of clothing a good shake before putting in the dryer to minimize wrinkles.
- From Dryer to Hanger – Your Modern Family shares (among other laundry tips) that keeping a laundry rack next to the dryer and hanging clothes there before transferring to hangers in the closet limits the ironing needed.
- Have Designated Folding Baskets – Becky of Your Modern Family shares how she uses designated folding baskets to make her laundry routine easier.
- Fold Into Squares & Stand Clothes on End – I shared a few weeks ago how this simple laundry trick of folding clothes into smaller squares seriously changed our laundry lives!
- Label Kids’ Drawers – Even little kids can help put away their own laundry if their drawers are clearly labeled. Check out these free printable drawer labels from Modern Parent Messy Kids.
- Turn Your Laundry Basket into a Sailboat – Okay, okay… so this might not actually help you get the laundry done, but I couldn’t resist including this adorable laundry basket sailboat play idea from No Time for Flash Cards.
- Skip the Stain Charts – No need for an elaborate chart of types of stains and stain-removing concoctions; OxiClean™ works great for all kinds of stains!
Use OxiClean™ for Kids’ Stains!
OxiClean™ Versatile Stain Remover is the “premier solution for removing all types of tough stains” – from kids’ finger-painting stains to outdoor muddy play messes.
“The unique formula is activated by water, unleashing bubbling oxygen power for safe, effective cleaning. It boosts your laundry water pH to improve your detergent’s cleaning ability, and its special ingredients are designed to help rinse soils away.”
I love that it’s so easy; just toss a scoop into each load to catch hidden messes. Plus you can rub it into set-in stains ahead of washing or even let a load soak in it for a few hours, too. And I’m especially excited about the new OxiClean™ White Revive™ to brighten our dingy whites since we haven’t been very good about sorting whites from darks lately.
