Kid Style Home Decor (or lack thereof…) from REAL Moms
I have to admit… I love reality TV. The trashier the better. I know, I know. It’s terrible. But when I saw the preview for the new unscripted Lifetime show following 6 Atlanta Moms, Pretty Wicked Moms, I was itching to see it. To let it take me away from my reality for just a short time. So when I was contacted by POPSUGAR’s Circle of Moms to preview it, I was kind of excited. Here’s a little preview for ya…
Of course watching it made me mad. Such extreme personalities, over-the-top clothing, limited kid focus, and judgement between moms. I wouldn’t say this demographic of moms reflects REAL motherhood much at all. But the one thing that kept annoying me throughout the show was their pristine home decor. I only saw a couple of small bins of kids’ toys midst large expanses of white carpet, sparkling clean kitchens, and present dining tables. Really? Do they have maids? Do they only look this way for the cameras? Do their closets hide their mess? Do the kids even HAVE toys?
REALITY Show Moms Home Decor vs. REAL Moms Kid Style Decor
So I thought it would be fun to counterbalance this REALITY version of home decor we’re always seeing on TV with a post featuring REAL HOMES – Kid Style! Yep, this is what my kids’ bedrooms look like RIGHT NOW! I’m hanging it all out there.
And five other real mamas are, too. Check out the real kid style decor of these real moms…
Sure we all think we’d love to have maids and “beautiful” homes that look like the ones on Pretty Wicked Moms and other reality shows. But which ones are really good for our kids? And which ones are really beautiful? I vote for ours, Mamas! The ones that look lived in, played in, loved in. That’s REAL kids style home decor!
Oh and if you’re a reality TV junkie like me, tune in to watch parenting like you’ve never seen before with the first episode of Pretty Wicked Moms on Tuesday, June 4, at 10:00 pm ET/PT on Lifetime.
But in the meantime, join me on Facebook or Instagram (with the hashtag #realmomdecor) and share your “Real Mom Home Decor” photos. What does YOUR home look like RIGHT NOW?! Don’t be ashamed, Mama! I bet it’s “beautiful!”

Yes!! This is so awesome!I find homes that are too perfect disturbing….especially since kids probably never have fun in a show house!

I just adore this!! Homes that are LIVED in and LOVED! Toys are meant to be played with, kids are meant to play with forts . . . real life. And I love that so many ladies I admire have homes as well-loved as mine. 🙂

I can’t say I’m a big fan of that richy lifestyle…it just doesn’t seem real to me. Plus, it seems a bit judgmental and that’s the last thing parents need. But hey, that’s what people like to watch, so I bet it will do pretty good. I love your idea of showing how Mom’s do it who don’t have maids or nannies. I’ve joined along on Instgram and will post on Facebook too…if my kids don’t wake up soon!
