So… We Visited the New Kalahari Indoor Water Park!
Eeeek! Yes, we let the kids skip school, took a couple days off of work, and went on our very first official family (only) vacation. And it was ahhhh-mazing. We played and we giggled and we ate treats and we crafted together and we splashed and we napped and we needed this so much. Here’s some of the fun we had at the brand new Kalahari Resort in the Poconos…

Highlights from Our First* Kalahari Family Vacation:
(*I say “FIRST” because not only are the kids begging to go back, but my hubby Cliff is already planning another trip there in the Spring!)
- The AWESOME Indoor Water Park – Since it’s cool October weather here in the Northeast, we missed the outdoor water park and stuck with the indoor. But the kids concluded that it was much bigger and better than any other indoor water park we’ve visited. I guess they aren’t joking when they claim that it’s the biggest in Pennsylvania! They especially loved the small kids’ slides at “Tiko’s Watering Hole” and the mini “Kids Lazy River”. But they also went up and down – and up and down – the stairs and bigger slides of the “Splashdown Safari”, too.
- The Huge Arcade – If we weren’t in the water park, you could most likely find us in the “Family Entertainment Center”. Not only was it a huge arcade full of claw machines, ride on games, and classic arcade games, but it had other fun stuff like an XD Dark Ride 5-D Theater and Glow Golf. The kids favorite, though, was the Mini Bowling. UNTIL poor accident-prone Priscilla twisted her ankle…
- The Activity Room & Free Cookie Decorating – After the lovely medic came, checked out Priscilla’s ankle, and hooked us up with some ice for it, we spent some quiet time getting creative in the kids activity room. We enjoyed the various creative activities – from crafts to a coloring contest – scheduled there as breaks between the sometimes overwhelming water park and arcade. Especially the FREE cookie decorating. (Which Priscilla had NO problem standing on her ankle to do! *wink*) Yum!
- The Cool African Artifacts & Decor – My kids being the animal lovers they are were loving the African theme, too. As I mentioned in my previous post leading up to our Kalahari vacation, Kalahari Resort features the “magic of Africa”! The Kalahari Resort owner, Todd Nelson, along with his wife and five children traveled to six countries in Africa to bring authentic African experiences and items back to the new Poconos resort. Check out Sawyer sitting like a King in the African carved chair!

We’ve been trying to plan a vacation for my birthday and my boyfriends birthday for a while now, but we don’t have enough money to be able to pay for a place up the mountains AND the activities you have to pay for in order to have a good time so this would be perfect!
