Last week, as part of the Playtex Mom Trust Program, I shared my 6 essentials for a “perfect” diaper change.  (Did you enter the giveaway for the Playtex Diaper Genie SmartCaddy?!  Quick – Go do that, and I’ll wait right here for you…)  So I thought it’d be fun to check in with all of my experienced B-Inspired Blogger Mamas to see what their best tips and tricks are for a better diaper change.  Here goes…

10 Diaper Change Tips & Tricks - From the Mouths of Moms - #Sponsored by Playtex - B-Inspired Mama

10 Diaper Change Tips & Tricks

  1. Hang Family Pictures on the Wall – “Hang pictures of family or even some kind of art on the wall at baby’s eye level above the changing table. My kids always love looking at whatever I have hanging there.” Jennifer of Plain Vanilla Mom
  2. Organize the Diaper Bag with Plastic Storage Bags – “Gallon size plastic bags were excellent for organizing the diaper bag to keep everything clean and fresh. Then if I needed a bag for something dirty I always had one!” Sarah of Little Bins for Little Hands
  3. Special Toys ONLY for Diaper Change Time – “Find a favorite small toy that they only get to have at diaper changing time.” Jennifer of Plain Vanilla Mom
  4. Grab a Book – “My babies love looking at small board books during diaper changes. I always had a few books that they were ONLY allowed to see during a diaper change – that helped the book keep their interest.” MaryAnne of Mama Smiles
  5. Sing, Talk, & Get Silly – “I alternate between singing a quiet song, making silly faces and playing peekaboo. Now that he’s over a year old I like to ask fun questions. We go through his animal sounds or body parts and that kind of thing.” Laura of Lalymom
  6. Change Up the Mobile – “We hung a simple mobile over the changing area that had clips on it so we could easily change out items. Even pretty packaging bows made it fun to look at while we changed his diaper!” Sarah of Little Bins for Little Hands
  7. Communicate Transitions – “We use our baby sign language signs for ‘all done’ and ‘come here’ when we are done with diaper changes.  This lets our littlest one know she can jump and run.” Leah of Simple. Home. Blessings.
  8. Strap ‘Em Down – “If they’re just too wiggly, make sure to keep them safe by strapping them down with the straps on the changing table.  And I’ll let you in on a secret: when my toddlers went through a crazy squirmy stage, I’d even change them on the floor with one of my legs GENTLY draped over their middle to hold them down from running off.  My family used to pick on me, but it worked and kept them safe!” Krissy of B-Inspired Mama
  9. Consider It a Time for Connecting with Baby – “It’s all about the art of distraction through songs, love, giggles, and interesting objects to hold. Most importantly to remember that [diaper changing is] a special time to bond with your little one.” Kim of The Educators’ Spin On It
  10. Stay Calm, Mama! – “My daughter was always a content kid so it really threw me for a loop when our son constantly fussed and squirmed during diaper changes. I have to remember to stay calm myself.” Laura of Lalymom

Great tips! I did the leg thing too-no need to feel bad. 🙂 I love the idea to have a mobile with clips and the family pictures. So many verbal communication lessons occur during diaper changes…and patience lessons for us mamas! It can be challenging, but this list will help.
