Kids Light Box Color & Light Play

Colorful Cups and Kids Light Box Play at B-Inspired Mama

After seeing so many other moms sharing awesome kids light box and light table activities, I FINALLY made a simple light box for the kids.  I just threw a couple battery operated LED lights into a clear bin to make the box.  And the kids built a tent with blankets in the living room to make a nice dark spot to play with it in.

Colorful Cups on the Kids Light Box

I wasn’t quite as ambitious as Dyan was when she made her shape and letter manipulatives for her kids light box.  I just gave the kids a bunch of colorful translucent plastic cups (and shot glasses – HA!) that I purchased at 5 Below.

The kids oooohed and aaaahed over the glowing light.  They nested different colored cups to see what colors they would make.  They concentrated as they built colorful cup pyramids.  And they giggled when they came tumbling down.  It kept them entertained for nearly an hour and I can assure you lots of learning took place, too.

When J.C. woke up from his nap, he even had a go with the lights and cups right in his high chair.  Now they’ve got the light box bug and I’m going to have to come up with some more light box ideas.

Awesome! I made one almost 2 years ago that turned out great. I lined the inside with silver reflective duct tape to filter the light evenly and put a sheet of parchment paper under the top to help with light filtration. I also used all LED Christmas lights I had on hand. I went a little extra crazy, but it’s held up great and the light it gives off is wonderful. Love the use if colored clear cups 🙂

Well, you obviously have more ambition than me, Mama! Way to go. 🙂

I just made my own (humble) light box and I’ve been looking for things to do with it. I’m going to look for these cups – it will be fun to stack them and see what the colors became!

I’m glad I’m not the only one who spotted the colorful shot tubes and glasses at the dollar store and thought “ooh…kids’ toys!”. We use them in the water table but now I’m going to use them on the light hox too!

I LOVE this idea! I’ve been wanting to make a light box for a long time. Thanks for helping me do that on a tight budget. I’m excited to see what my son thinks!
