Some Sensory Play to Explore Ancient Egypt!
You might remember from our Glittery Egyptian Inspired Art Project a couple weeks back that we’ve been exploring Ancient Egypt in our homeschool. Well we added some sensory play to our learning, too, with some homemade sand-link cloud dough and fun Egyptian TOOB Toys! Check it out…
Egyptian “Sand” Cloud Dough
I had actually never made cloud dough before, but it was super easy. In fact, I didn’t even measure, so you won’t get a “recipe” from me. I just happened to have an outdated package of corn flour in the cupboard that worked perfect for that golden “sand” color.
I just poured the entire package of corn flour into a big mixing bowl and gradually added vegetable oil – about a cup at a time – while working it all together with our hands until it became a cool cloud dough like consistency. In other words, it would hold a shape when you squeezed it, but them crumble apart like sand, too. Perfect for some Ancient Egypt Sensory Play!
And since we learned that salt was an integral part of the mummification process in Ancient Egypt, I let the kids use some salt in their sensory play, too. Which quickly became the Nile River.
My sensory seeker Sawyer loved shaping and pounding the homemade cloud dough. But this wasn’t my Priscilla’s “cup of tea.” She wasn’t into the texture at all and could wait to get those Egyptian TOOB Toys into the tub for a wash.
Have you and your kids had any fun sensory play lately? I’d love to hear about it in the comments below!

How cool is this – I love the mix of cloud dough and salt with the Egyptian Figures (must see if we can get those in the UK).
Thank you for linking up to Tuesday Tots last week and just to let you know that I will be featuring this over on Rainy Day Mum this week.

Did the salt ruin the cloud dough?
Krissy @ B-Inspired Mama says
I hadn’t even thought of that. He didn’t really mix it in, just made a river with it. And it worked fine for that. 🙂

Wow what fun! Also what child doesn’t like playing in the sand as well (LOL). Thanks for the post, I enjoyed looking at it.
