Learning About Shells with A Seashell Craft for Kids
We decided to explore shells for this month’s Poppins Book Nook Ocean theme. We’re fortunate to have a great set of kids learning books, the Southwestern Advantage Explore and Learn Series. So we grabbed The Natural World one and read about the ocean, the seashore, its animals, and its shells! Then to explore seashells some more, we did a fun, sensory clay and seashell craft. This would also be a fun way for the kids to use the seashells they collect from a summer beach vacation. Check it out…

A Sensory Clay & Seashell Craft for Kids
Supplies:
- air dry clay
- a variety of seashells
- glass pebbles in ocean colors
- pearl beads
Steps:
The kids rolled their ball of clay and squished it down. Then had fun exploring the impressions that the seashells made when pressing them in the clay. All of the squishing and poking was such great fine motor skill work for them, too!
After squishing and exploring for a bit, they settled on making little flower-like sculptures by pressing the shells and pebbles into the clay and leaving them to dry in it.
I think they’ll make the perfect paper weight when they’re dry, don’t you?
Have your kids ever explored seashells before? Have you ever done a seashell craft for kids? I’d love to hear about it in the comments below!

Awww, this is so good! Camilla explored the seashells only occasionally and did not know what to think of them. They are not brightly colored for a toddler – LOL. We definitely need to do something like this. Thanks for posting!
