Nest Candy Easter Recipe
Nest Candy

I vividly remember eating this candy (called haystacks without the chocolate “eggs”) at my Great Grandma’s annual Christmas parties. I was so excited to see how easy it is to make these Birds Nest Candies when I started seeing this recipe pop up in the blogosphere. Here is one of my favorite ones using rice cereal, too! There seems to be a few different variations. The only thing we did differently was use a standard muffin tin and liners to help mold them. Check it out…
Butterscotch Nest Candy Easter Recipe
Ingredients:
- mixing bowls & spoons
- standard muffin tin
- paper muffin cups (optional)
- 1 12 oz. pkg. La Choy Chow Mein Noodles
- 1 11 oz. pkg. Nestle Toll House Butterscotch Morsels
- 1 10 oz. pkg. Reese’s Pieces Pastel Eggs

SIMPLE Steps:
- Using a microwave safe bowl, melt the butterscotch morsels in the microwave at 30 second intervals.
- Combine the melted butterscotch and the chow mein noodles.
- Line the muffin tin with the paper muffin cups.
- Spoon some chow mein mixture into each muffin cup.
- Press a few egg candies into the center of each “nest.”
- Let set until butterscotch is hardened.
- Enjoy!
These are the perfect Spring or Easter recipe. And they’re super-easy for kids to help with. As you can see, Sawyer did all of the work. Priscilla was in the background putting egg after egg in her mouth!

These look wonderful! We made bird nests from coconut and meltable vanilla baking squares last year. Those were good too, but going to give these a try this year for something different. Just shared the link with my FB friends.
These look yummy and fun to make with your kids.

How much of each do you use? How many of these does a batch make? Did you use a standard muffin tin or a mini one?
Hi Glenda! I’ve updated the post to include more specifics to answer your questions. Thanks for the comment.

Hi, what consistency are these when set? I’m looking for something less crunchy than cereals.. for a medical need..
Hi Jess,
They are pretty crunchy when set. Definitely as crunchy as cereal.

These are adorable! I just made them for the family get-together tomorrow and they were super easy. Now if I can just keep my DH out of them until tomorrow.
