Priscilla’s Colorful Kid Room
We’ve been living at our home for a year and a half now, and I’ve just finally gotten my kids’ rooms decorated and organized enough to share with you. (I don’t have curtains up in the living room yet, but that’s another issue all together…) Here’s a peak at Priscilla’s colorful kid room with all of the handmade, vintage, and thrift store finds that make it fun and unique.
Creative Girls Room Ideas
- Think beyond pink. I’ve never been a pink kind of mama, so I went with bright primary colors of red, yellow, and blue.
- Shop at thrift stores and buy second-hand. I’m all about buying kids’ décor and toys second hand at sales, flea markets or thrift stores. I found the Melissa & Doug Wooden Play Kitchen used on Craigslist and like it so much more than plastic ones.
- Add some handmade touches. I made her Priscilla name bunting out of cloth place mats, ribbon and felt. And the abstract painting above the bed was a gift from my dear artist friend, Katie, when I was pregnant for Priscilla. I’ll tell you more about the basket wall book display next week.
- Throw in some vintage. I added some fun touches with a vintage yellow canister set, crewel embroidered wall art, a cute 1970s cork board, a vintage yellow lamp with striped shade and a vintage doll high chair I used as a little girl. And no little girl’s room is complete without a Raggedy Ann doll, right?

I am ALL about thrift stores and we have some great vintage books that have been in our family for almost 70 years and a stuffed animal that was my mom's when she was a little girl and two that were mine. http://jennifischer.blogspot.com/2012/05/books-as-heirlooms-100-childrens-book.html – Still trying to figure out if and how to display these books. Right now, there are in a bin that has a top on it that my toddler can't open and we take them out for supervised reading only so that he can't tear the pages.

LOOOOVE that you go to thrift stores and buy used, most people don't these days, sad because it's so worth it. I love thrift stores! Your daughter's room is very cute, good job 🙂

Thanks, Valerie. I discovered the treasures in thrift stores and flea markets a few years ago. Now I'm hooked!

I wish I could take credit for making it… but I must admit that we bought that at Hobby Lobby. One of the very few decor items we paid full price for! 🙂
