A Recycled Craft for Earth Day

I hate to see all of those cool shaped recyclables go to waste, don’t you?  I mean, I’m always thinking… “That creamer container would make the perfect doll body…”  and “We’ve gotta make that milk carton into a house!”  And since Earth Day is coming up I wanted to do a recycled craft with the kids, so what better time to transform them, right?  Here’s what we did…

DIY Chalkboard Toys Recycled Craft at B-Inspired Mama

Simple Chalkboard Toys Recycled Craft

Supplies:

  • various clean, dry recyclables
  • black chalkboard paint
  • colorful chalk

Steps:

  1. Make sure recyclables are clean, dry, and free of labels.
  2. Paint recyclables with chalkboard paint and let dry. (I used spray paint, but you can also get brushable chalkboard paint if you prefer.)
  3. Let the kids transform them with some colorful chalk!  PLAY!

Goodness these are precious. I’m setting up a recycled project post today and I hope you stop in and link up! I’ll come back and give you the link. My teens are going to make these and take them when they babysit. I’m going to feature your project in my post.

    I love this idea!!

What did you use to make the long rectangle one? Do these hold up after multiple uses? Thanks! 🙂

The long rectangle is a milk carton on its side. They’ve been holding up to my kids pretty good. I thought the paint might flake off, but it seems like it’s on there pretty good.
