Can I be honest about family vacations?
They are so hard.
Maybe it’s because we have 3 young kids. Maybe it’s because those kids have special needs. Maybe it’s because I’m just tired.
But Cliff and I simply can’t figure out how families like ours – or even families with more kids or more-serious special needs – do big family vacations. With long car rides and tight airplane seats and adjusting to new hotel rooms and jam-packed days of sight-seeing and overloaded amusement parks and… and… and. It’s just too exhausting.
So we don’t do them. We do short mini-trips instead. Within driving distance and only one or two days. Like our awesome end-of-summer road trip to Adventure Aquarium.
But first, we got ready for our trip by imagining what we might touch in the Aquarium touch tanks! With this fun Touch Tank Drawing Prompt for Kids…

Now, Check Out Our Awesome Adventure Aquarium Trip…
Adventure Aquarium is just minutes from downtown Philadelphia – on the Camden Waterfront in New Jersey – so it was a few hours drive for us. Perfect for a family road trip! and features one-of-a-kind exhibits with
The kids were so excited when we read on their website that they are the only aquarium in the world with hippos. And they have the only Great Hammerhead Shark on exhibit in the entire United States. So they didn’t mind the long ride.
We checked out the hippos first. But they were napping between meals.
Then we made our way to the tunnel of sharks. This was my favorite part. The sharks were so elegant gliding by and above you. My boys loved all the sharks at the aquarium. They have the largest collection of sharks on the East Coast!
Cliff and the kids went through the rope bridge above some of those sharks, too. Miss Priscilla was a little nervous at first, but she had a big smile at the end.
But her anxiety returned when we reached the shark touch tank. The sharks were napping peacefully, though, so she got to skim their backs with her finger. Super cool, right?!
We loved how interactive the aquarium was. Aside from various touch tanks, there was a cool kids’ area, too. Here’s Sawyer getting an inside view of a saltwater environment in the kids’ area. He looked so funny in there.
J.C.’s favorite touch tank was the one with the sea stars and sea anemones. Again, Priscilla was little hesitant. But nothing scares J.C. Ha!
We saw the Little Blue Penguins right at the end of our visit. It was fun to watch them frolic and swim around. We’re pretty sure they know they’re putting on a show.
We made sure to get there right when they opened. It was nice to beat the crowds. And we spent a couple hours there before heading back home. Such a fun day trip!

Hi, Denise. Your email address is showing as having bounced in my email system. So they tried to email the address you put in multiple times and it wouldn’t go through. Is the address correct? Or is there another address you could use?
