A Super Simple Fine Motor Activity Perfect for Winter!
Do you know what I love? SIMPLE. I love things that are simple. Simple to put together, simple to put away, just plain simple. I especially love kids’ skill building activities that are simple. Hey, I have four children from pre-teen to three years old. Just like you I am always stretched for time. Especially throughout the holiday season. So I try to keep my eye out for ideas and inspiration for kids activities that are easy to prepare and implement. This winter-themed fine motor activity for toddlers is no exception.
Our Simple Winter Fine Motor Activity
Sometimes I just like to walk the aisles of stores to see what will inspire me. Like back in November, when I found the fall themed foam stickers and turned them into dominos. I just never know what is going to strike a chord at the perfect moment. (Of course, going into the store with a set budget is important to…)
This month, it was a super cute set of snowman gel window clings that caught my eye. Amazon has them, but they were much cheaper in the craft store. While the window cling “stickers” were super cute in and of themselves, it made it even better when we discovered that all the eyes, buttons and little carrot nose come out of the snowman. You may be wondering why that would be so awesome…
My littlest one has some developmental delays that make it essential that we practice basic skills like fine motor development on a regular basis. This snowman clings helped her work on her fine motor skills, identifying body parts (super awesome when your child recognizes that those sticks are supposed to be arms!) and use her imagination as she assembled and disassembled the snowman over and over.
It was also great for hand-eye coordination because those holes were super tiny and you had to fit the pieces in “just right” or they would fall right back out.
As you can see we didn’t actually do this activity on a window. That would have been fun, too, but since our windows are sealed off for the winter we used a portable white board instead.
It’s amazing how a little walk through a craft store aisle can inspire a great fine motor activity, isn’t it?! What have you been inspired by lately?
