No, it’s not my daughter’s Birthday. (My kids all have winter Birthdays.)
But when Nickelodeon invites you and your daughter to host a girly Shimmer & Shine Party to celebrate the release of Shimmer & Shine toys, clothing, DVD’s and more at Target, you say… “ABSOLUTELY!”
Who doesn’t love a girly party full of shimmer and shine, sweets and treats, and all your best girlfriends?
And while it’s nowhere near my daughter’s Birthday, this awesome girly party playdate was the perfect celebratory reward for her hard work at her charter school’s 2 week Summer Academy.
4 Steps to a Girly Party or Playdate your Daughter will Adore
1. Pick a Girly Party Theme
Have your daughter help pick a fun and girly theme for her party. Her favorite TV show or toy would be a great start!
How I did it for our Shimmer & Shine Party: Nickelodeon’s Shimmer & Shine show – featuring two twin genies who live in the magical world of Zaharamay and make wishes come true for their friend Leah. Aside from the party-perfect girly colors, gems, and magic, the show focuses on themes of teamwork, empowerment, and learning from your mistakes. Perfect for young girls!
2. Offer Lots of Colorful Candy & Sweets
What little girl doesn’t love a sweet treat? Plus, colorful candy and sprinkled cupcakes do double duty. They make kids’ taste buds happy and are super pretty party decor in clear glass containers, too!
How I did it for our Shimmer & Shine Party: Shiny foil-wrapped chocolates in a fancy glass candy dish, pearlescent pink and blue gumballs in a tall glass container, store-bought mini cupcakes I jazzed up with crystal sugar sprinkles, and fizzy pink soda with cute paper straws.
3. Infuse Creativity with a Craft Activity and Face Paint
Encourage the kids’ creativity and self-expression with a creative activity or two. Whether a cute girly craft or some easy coloring sheets, the girls will love to chatter while they get creative. While the kids are creating, pull them aside one at a time to do some fun face painting! Paint the girls’ faces with pretty designs – along the party theme or of their choice. They’ll giggle and grin when they look in the mirror afterward!
How I did it for our Shimmer & Shine Party: Glitter markers in a mason jar, little blank books for crafting girly stories, and Shimmer & Shine Coloring Books. Shimmer & Shine themed designs (i.e. sparkling jewels and colorful eyebrows like Shimmer’s and Shine’s, a monkey face like Shimmer’s pet gibbon monkey) with a store-bought face painting kit.

4. Include Awesome Toys & Books for Imaginative Girly Play
Have some toys on hand you know your girl and her friends will love. Toys are cute girly party decor before playtime, too!
How I did it for our Shimmer & Shine Party: Fisher-Price Shimmer & Shine Wish and Spin Shine and Wish and Spin Shimmer dolls (which both come to life and “grant wishes” when kids clap their hands or activate the included genie bottle necklaces), smaller Fisher-Price Shimmer & Shine Dolls, Talah and Nahal Figure toys, lots of Shimmer & Shine books, and sparkly ribbon wands.
Priscilla and her friends had the best time! Playing magical pretend, eating sparkling cupcakes, coloring their Shimmer & Shine Coloring Books. I even heard one sweet friend exclaim, “This is the BEST party I’ve ever been to!” I’m pretty sure their smiles “shimmered and shined” for days after.
Make sure to check your local Target for Shimmer & Shine toys, books, and DVDs for a fun girly party for your own daughter!
