A Mother’s Day Craft that’s a Gift & a Centerpiece!
Create a colorful homemade Mother’s Day gift with this easy Mother’s Day craft for kids. While it may look like sand art, it is really colored salt! We used different layers of colored salt to create a fun and colorful centerpiece.
My five year old and three year old artfully arranged the salt in the vase and topped it by arranging flowers on top. The tutorial below will show our easy way to color salt to imitate the look of colored sand art.

Colored Salt Art Centerpiece Mother’s Day Craft
Materials:
- Salt
- Chalk (Various colors)
- Plastic Knife
- Bowl
- Mason Jar or Glass Vase
- Artificial Flowers
Steps:
Step 1: Pour salt into a bowl. Use the plastic knife to scrap colored chalk directly on to the salt. Having two helpers made the process go fast.
Step 2: Stir the chalk into the salt. Add more chalk as needed to achieve desired color.
Step 3: Carefully pour the salt into a vase. Layer different colors on top of each other. Continue until the vase is filled.
Step 4: Top of the centerpiece with an arrangement of fake flowers. My three year old loved being able to arrange the flowers herself.
