Parenting Priorities – What About Home Organization?
You may have noticed things slowing down just a bit at B-Inspired Mama over the last couple of weeks. I’ve definitely been struggling a bit lately with “balancing” my new-ish role as homeschooling mama with my blogging and business role as “B-Inspired Mama.” So I’ve taken a (tiny) step back – but not a step away entirely – to sort out my priorities. Which of course I strive to always have my kids at the center of. Honestly, those priorities seem to shift and change often; sometimes hourly depending on my kids’ and family’s needs. Somedays it is homeschool planning, somedays it’s just snuggling on the couch. This weekend it was filling my own spiritual mama soul at Raising Generations Today. But today’s parenting priority is HOME ORGANIZATION!
You Might Wonder: How Does Home Organization Relate to Parenting?
Well, I’m beginning to realize that chaos in MY kids is directly correlated to clutter in our home. The more disorganized and cluttered our surroundings, the more distraction and even defiance in my kids. And with recent diagnoses of sensory processing issues in Sawyer and J.C. (which I’ll tell you more about when the time is right), this is even more an issue for us. I’m not saying that housework should be a priority for you and your kids. I think it depends on your family and your kids. And I’m definitely NOT saying that I will make it a priority everyday, all the time. But TODAY. My priority for just TODAY is to get organized!
Here’s My Organization Plan for TODAY:
- Get it Outta Sight – Our counters, tables, and desks are always full and cluttered. It’s visually distracting and has led to a toddler who is continuously pointing and begging for another snack or object that he just cannot have. I have GOT to get stuff out of sight and in a home in a container or cupboard. And to do that I will first need to…
- De-Clutter & Donate – I’ve got a big box perched on the kitchen counter to toss in items to be donated. If it hasn’t been used in months, it’s going in the box. PERIOD.
- Use Room Bins – Once I’m down to the items that are keepers, I plan to set up bins for each room. Then each item will go in it’s respective “Room Bin” and Room Bins will be taken to their respective rooms.
- The Big Put-Away – Then I’ll focus on one room at a time and find a home in that room for everything in the “Room Bin.”
Does that organization plan make sense? Well… I’m off to get started. I’ll let you know how it goes! Make sure to stop by the Playtex Baby Facebook Page for more home orgranization from more Playtex Mom Trust Program Moms.

I can so relate to this post! But don’t be too hard on yourself. We just covered the drama of having a disorganized home over on our podcast and blog, What’s Witth The Drama, and laughed a lot about our own cluttered houses; we also shared a few tips about getting organized. Sometimes knowing others are fighting the same battles and can laugh about it will make things less stressful.
