Get the Kids in the Kitchen for Some Fruit Fun!
I have a hard time introducing new foods to my picky eaters. But two strategies usually help: pairing the new food with one(s) they already like and making it FUN! So when I introduced them to OneBars, yummy snacks full of fruit, I paired them with fresh fruit I know they like and set up a fun fruit sculpture activity, too. Check it out…
Kids in the Kitchen – Fun Fruit Sculpture Activity
Ingredients & Supplies We Used:
- lots of fresh fruit (we used bananas, strawberries, apples, grapes, and blackberries)
- candy eyes (these are a MUST for most fun food in our house!)
- tube of black decorator icing
- toothpicks
- plastic appetizer forks
- butter knives for cutting fruit and OneBars
- OneBars in Apple, Cherry and Mango flavors
Our Fruit Sculpture Fun:
I let the kids use a dull butter knife to practice their cutting skills on the OneBars and fruit. They always feel so grown up when they get to practice cutting, and the soft OneBars and bananas were the perfect practice food.
Then they used the toothpicks and little forks to attach their pieces of fruit and OneBars together to make silly sculptures. There were houses, animals, and lots of silly robot men.
I loved seeing their excitement about healthy food. And while I didn’t pressure them about the new food, I DID see each of them sneak some bites of the OneBar throughout the process.
Afterward, I asked them what they thought about the taste of the OneBar, and they both loved it. Now we have a healthy and easy fruit alternative (with a WHOLE serving of fruit in each bar!) to take on the go. SCORE!

This is some kind of family bonding too, preparing kids healthy food while both of you are having fun. That was a good idea.

Those sound delicious! My son isn’t quite old enough for this activity but I can’t wait to try it with him. Maybe I’ll just make a fruit man for him.
