Some Transformers Inspired Homemade Playdough Fun!
Last week, we were sent some fun new TRANSFORMERS CONSTRUCT- BOTS toys to try out. Sawyer’s a huge TRANSFORMERS fan, so he was thrilled. And this mama was thrilled to see that these new CONSTRUCT- BOTS take the fun and learning beyond your typical action figures. You see, each CONSTRUCT- BOTS toy comes in pieces, and it’s up to you and your kiddo to build them. (Awesome fine motor skill work and direction following right there!) And each CONSTRUCT- BOTS figure includes a robot frame and lots of armor, weapons and accessories so the kids can get creative in customizing their own robot. LOVE! While Sawyer got busy constructing his robots, I set out to make some homemade playdough to enhance his TRANFORMERS play. Check out the fun we had…
Making TRANSFORMERS Inspired Homemade Playdough
(Inspired by the awesome 4 Minute No-Cook Play Dough Recipe from The Imagination Tree.)
Easy Homemade Playdough Ingredients:
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons cream of tartar
- 1 – 2 cups boiling water
- food coloring (optional)
- spices for scent (optional)
- glitter (optional)
- a couple drops of essential oil for scent (optional)
(Consider trying Essential Oils to add therapeutic scents to your homemade playdough!)
Easy Homemade Playdough Making Steps:
- Put a teapot of water on to boil while you prep the other ingredients.
- In a large bowl, have the kids help mix up all of the dry ingredients and the vegetable oil.
- Stir in any essential oils you’d like.
- Add boiling water in about a half a cup at a time and mix until it begins to form a sticky dough ball.
- Knead for a few minutes and add a dash of flour if needed to make less sticky.
- Whala! You’ve got homemade playdough!
I have to be honest, I don’t measure much, but it all works out, because you can adjust how much water to add to make the dough the consistency you’d like. For the first batch, I threw in some blue food coloring, peppermint oil, and red glitter to make our Blue Sparkle Homemade Playdough.
Then for the second batch, I added red food coloring, some cinnamon, and red and silver glitter to make our Red Glitter Homemade Playdough. Both were perfectly suited to the blue and red Optimus Prime CONSTRUCT-BOTS set.
Then I set it all out on a tray with some red and blue wooden blocks, red and blue plastic stir sticks, and some blue gems. Instant TRANSFORMERS Playdough Fun!
Priscilla, of course, went right for the Red Sparkle Playdough to make a crazy robot face. Sawyer started in on his own Optimus Prime sculpture using the Blue Sparkle Playdough and some CONSTRUCT-BOTS parts.
My favorite part was making impressions into the playdough with the different TRANSFORMERS pieces. (What?! Mamas can play, too!) Check out how the CONSRUCT-BOTS carrying case made this TRANSFORMERS logo impression…
Our homemade playdough ended up being a really fun way to extend our play with our new TRANSFORMERS CONSTRUCT- BOTS. Who says action figures can’t be creative, right?
