Our Book Inspired Bird Feeder Fun
Each Summer we love participating in the LOVE Books Exchange hosted by The Educators’ Spin On It. We get paired up with another blogger and her family and exchange a children’s book with supplies for a fun book-inspired project. This year we were partnered with the wonderful Becky and her kids from Kid World Citizen. And they sent us a super fun book and fun stuff to make our own bird feeders. Check it out…
Opening Up Our Love Book Exchange Package
The kids were BEYOND excited to get a package in the mail from Becky and her family. They dug right in! I had to stop them to read this super-cool book that was sent along: Those Darn Squirrels by Adam Rubin and Daniel Salmieri.
It wasn’t hard to get the kids attention with the books whimsical illustrations and silly plot:
Old Man Fookwire is a grump. The only thing he likes to do is paint pictures of the birds that visit his backyard. The problem is, they fly south every winter, leaving him sad and lonely. So he decides to get them to stay by putting up beautiful birdfeeders filled with seeds and berries. Unfortunately, the squirrels like the treats, too, and make a daring raid on the feeders. The conflict escalates—until the birds depart (as usual), and the squirrels come up with a plan that completely charms the old grump.
Easy Homemade Bird Feeders for Kids with… Peanut Butter!
The kids got a kick out of yelling “Those darn squirrels!” along with Old Man Fookwire. And they LOVED that Becky and her kids sent along supplies to make our own squirrel bird feeders, too. In fact she sent stuff to make FOUR different homemade bird feeders! Honestly, we only got to two so far, though. The two that use PEANUT BUTTER! Here are the details for each Peanut Butter Bird Feeder…

Never read the book. I might have to check it out for my boys. Making a feeder sure looks fun though.
