Healthy Snacking for Kids
I have to admit. My kids are snackers. They always have been. They snack all day long and then are picky eaters at meal time. It’s been said that eating 5 to 6 small meals a day instead of the standard 3 is actually a pretty healthy lifestyle, so there is definitely a place for healthy snacking. But my kids’ snacking is getting a little bit out of control. So I did a little research and made a plan to encourage more healthy snacking for my kids. Here’s what I plan to do…
4 Steps to Healthy Snacking for Kids
- Provide Only Healthy Choices – Kids are more likely to be excited about something if they get to have a say in it. Give them choices, but just make sure all of the choices are good, healthy options.
- Make Healthy Foods Accessible – Kids love to be independent. Encourage that independence by having healthy snack options within easy reach so that they can serve themselves.
- Provide Portion Control – Make sure that accessible snacks are already in healthy portions for kids. You can buy many foods pre-portioned or portion them out into single serving containers or baggies.
- Offer Balanced Snacks – A healthy snack should offer balanced nutrition; a combination of both protein and carbohydrates. Make sure that easily accessible snacks have both.
Healthy Snacking with Yopa! Yogurt
We were recently offered a sample of Yopa! Yogurt to try. It’s a great healthy option for the kids; it’s already portion controlled and has a great balance of protein and cards. Plus it’s yummy and offers a nice balance of creamy and crunch. The kids love sprinkling on the granola topping. I’m so excited that the kids love it, because it gives me one more healthy option for my “healthy snacking” action plan.
Speaking of balance, gold medalist Gabby Douglas is an expert, and she’s challenging you to take the Yopa! Taste Challenge where you can win a variety of prizes, including $10,000! Just “like” Yopa! on Facebook for a chance to win.
Give it a try and take the Yopa! Taste Challenge today. And let me know in the comments what your kids’ healthy snacking favorites are.
