Fun Finds Friday – Fun Stuff for Creative Kids!
So last week we shared all of the best STEM toys for all of your little scientists, engineers, and mathematicians. But what about the creative kids? Or the well-rounded kids who love it all?! This week the former art teacher in me is having a blast gathering up all of my favorite fun finds for creative kids. Let check ’em out…

25 Fun Finds for Creative Kids
- Quality Art Supplies – It’s important that kids have good quality art supplies so they don’t get discouraged while exploring and creating. Crayola’s great for basic art supplies; I love Crayola’s new sets that include storage cases like this Ultimate Crayon Case and this Telescoping Marker Tower. I find that my kids take care of them better when they are in cases like this. But don’t be afraid to let your little artist explore with some more “grown-up” art supplies, too, like oil pastels, artist watercolors, and good quality paper.
- An Easel – There’s nothing like drawing or painting upright at an easel. It changes your perspective and arm movements. Your little artist will love it! You could get a standing one like this highly-reviewed one from Melissa and Doug or a tabletop one like this magentic one from ALEX Toys.
- Playdough & Tools – Whether homemade or store bought, creative kids NEED playdough. And fun tools to use with it, of course. I love these wooden modeling stamps and tools from Melissa and Doug and these School Smart Dough Extruders, too!
- Arts & Crafts Kits – Open-ended creating is awesome, but sometimes starting with a kit is fun for kids, too. ALEX Toys makes cool kids art kits; check out their Paper Bag Puppets Kit, their Little Hands Tape and Make Kit and their Paint a Zoo Set.
- Classic Art Toys – These are the art activities that YOU remember from childhood. You’ll have so much fun sharing these with your creative kids. I’m talking a Spin Art Machine, a Spirograph Set, and Shrinky Dinks!
- Kids Art & Activities Books – Your creative kiddo will never run out of art project inspiration with a good stash of kids’ activities books. Some of our favorites include Art Lab for Kids, Art with Anything, and 101 Kids Activities that Are the Bestest Funnest Ever.
- Art History Books & Games – Every little artist needs to get to know art history! My favorite kids’ art history books are offered exlusively through Usborne; check out The Children’s Book of Art and Lift-the-Flap Art. Or make art history even more fun with games; try Professor Noggin’s History of Art Card Game or this Modern Art Memory Game.
- Drawing & Doodling Books – A blank paper or canvas can seem daunting to even the most creative of kids (or adults!). Your little creative kiddo might like to get creative with a drawing or doodling book once in awhile instead. Again, my favorites are from Usborne; check out The Usborne Books of Drawing, Doodling, and Coloring and their Step-by-Step Drawing Book.
