Making Shape Flowers with Felt!
Recently, Engineer and I put together a felt board activity focused on creating shape flowers. We thought it would be a great activity for the two- and three-year olds who come to our house after preschool. It will allow them to play with shapes and colors, explore their sense of touch, and have fun creating flowers, too.
Colorful Shape Flowers on the Felt Board
To make the pieces for the shape flowers, I chose a variety of brightly colored felt. I then cut rectangles, triangles, circles, squares, diamonds, and ovals out of each color. Once the shapes were cut out, Engineer and I worked together to make many colorful flowers.
He already knows his shapes, but he had fun creating with the felt nonetheless. For that matter, so did I.
To add more spice to the shape flowers, I brought out some felt letters. Engineer spelled his name by placing a letter on each flower. For some reason, he found it hysterical to spell “mom” on the shape flowers. I’m still not sure what tickled his funny bone about it!
After we were all flowered out, Engineer kept going with the felt shapes. He made the night sky, airplanes, and “a rocket ship that can fly all the way up to the moon.” Even though the shape flowers were originally intended for our younger visitors, I was happy to see Engineer really get into it! In fact, I think we’re going to practice kindergarten sight words with this activity next week.

I love love love this idea. I have been working with shapes with my toddler and this would be so much more fun than just drawing them.
I would love it if you could come link up on our Artsy Play Wednesday linky.
