My husband Clifford is one of those BBQ dads. As soon as the snow melts, he’s gathering his charcoal and prepping his grill.
And this mama is thrilled because she doesn’t have to stress about the main course for busy summer dinners or family picnics. Cliff’s got it covered!
So when we were invited to participate in Stop & Shop‘s summer #burgertour, it was an easy “Absolutely!” Cliff loves grilling, and the kids and I love eating burgers. The perfect fit for summer BBQing and anything with the title of #burgertour.
We chose the good-old All-American Burger recipe from the Stop & Shop Savory Recipe Center‘s July 4th options. No, it’s not as adventurous as the seafood-smothered Chesapeake Crab Burger or as trendy as the vegetarian West Coast Burger, but it’s the best burger recipe we’ve found yet! And the best burger recipe EVERYONE is sure to love at your 4th of July celebration. Here’s the recipe…
The All-American Burger Recipe (+ Sauce Recipe, Too!)
“An all-American family cookout calls for an all-American burger recipe. Make these for the Fourth of July and your backyard barbecue will be the neighborhood party of the season. Worcestershire sauce and Dijon are the secret ingredients—serve with lettuce, tomato and classic buns.”
Ingredients:
- 2 Tbsp light mayonnaise
- 2 Tbsp ketchup
- 1 tsp sweet pickle relish
- 2 1/2 tsp Dijon mustard, divided
- 1/8 tsp chipotle chili powder
- 1 lb ground beef (93% lean)
- 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 4 ( 3/4 oz.) sliced aged sharp Cheddar
- 4 whole-wheat hamburger buns
- 4 lettuce leaves
- 4 tomato slices
Remember: You can find all of the fresh and affordable ingredients at your local Stop & Shop – saving you time and money with one easy shopping trip!
Steps:
First, have the hubs prep the grill – coating it first with nonstick cooking spray then preheating to medium hot (300°F-350°F) – while you prep the burgers.
The secret to flavorful burgers: Dijon mustard and Worcestershire! In a medium bowl, combine the ground beef, 2 teaspoons of mustard, Worcestershire, and a dash of salt and pepper. Then form into 4 patties about 1/2-inch thick. (We actually did 3 larger patties, though.) Deliver the burger patties to the grill-master.
(Grill, covered, 4-5 minutes per side or to desired doneness. During the last 2 minutes, top each patty with 1 slice of cheese and grill until melted.)
While the burgers are on the grill, make the special burger sauce. (Or you could also make it ahead and refrigerate until serving.) For the sauce, in a small bowl combine mayonnaise, ketchup, relish, 1/2 teaspoon of the mustard, plus chipotle powder.
Place buns, cut side down, on the hot grill until lightly toasted. (Oops – we forgot to toast our buns!)
Then just build the best. burger. ever. using a juicy cheesy burger, fresh buns, a thick slice of tomato, some lettuce, and a dollop of that special sauce!
