New Years Resolutions Aren’t Just for Moms!
Last week we shared our New Years Resolution Focus Words that we have for ourselves as Mamas. But what about the goals that we have for this year for our families and our kids? The New Year is a great time to reassess our parenting goals and refocus as a family, too. I was invited by Progresso™ Light to share our family New Years resolution this year – to be HEALTHIER as a family. (I’ll share more below about how we plan to do that.) But first, let’s hear what some of my favorite mama bloggers’ New Years Resolutions for their families are this year…
Alright Mamas, What Are Your 2015 New Years Resolutions for Your Families?
1. Go Green – “Our goals include to write daily and to continue to explore natural and green products, especially for self-care and beauty products.” Dyan of And Next Comes L
2. Be Our Best Selves – “We have just finished our resolutions and intentions. For us it is really about trying to be the best version of ourselves. So that includes accepting our faults and making a concerted effort to improve them. So for my husband it is ‘be grouchy with style!'” Jen of Mum in the Madhouse
3. Decrease Tech Time – “We are going to focus on decreasing our ‘Tech Time’ this year. It’s been way too easy to let my son get caught up in watching TV or playing on the iPad while I’m making dinner or tidying up. And my husband and I have fallen into a bit of a rut watching TV at night after our son has been put to bed. Our plan for our son is just to have a 1/2 hour limit every day, and we’re going to try a Tech-Free day once a week for all of us!” Sue of One Time Through
4. Promote a Love for Learning – “I’m bad at keeping resolutions. Too often, I have lofty goals and expectations and feel terrible about not reaching them. We transitioned to creating more family values and focuses for the year. As my children get older, I want to help them continue to be excited about learning and education. Our goal this year is to set up a science lab in our playroom, trying to transition from a baby/toddler room to a toddler/preschool/gradeschool area.” Amanda of The Educators’ Spin On It
5. Streamline & Organize – “I’m trying not to be too specific with my resolutions for 2015 as I often set targets that are too high and then feel like I’ve let myself down when I don’t achieve them. This year we have five words – streamline, organize, laugh, family and save which are all words that represent how we want 2015 to be for us.” Cass of The Diary of a Frugal Family
6. Be Present – “My goal for our family is to be more present in the everyday. I am great at getting things accomplished but often feel the days run on autopilot and, while I am physically with the kids, I haven’t connected with them as I want to do. I want to present, not just active.” Rachel of A Mother Far From Home
7. More Purposeful Family Time – “This year, we want to be more purposeful about planning family time, especially with the kids getting older and busier–vacations, ski days, even just movie or game night. I think we’re going to try a visible family calendar and see if that helps us schedule better.” Shannon of What’s For Lunch at Our House?
8. Better Baby Sleep – “Well, Harry (who is 3) said his [resolution] was for Batman to come to the house, and I have decided Daisy’s (who is 4 months) is to sleep all night.” Louise of Messy Little Monster (See how Louise’s littles added their resolutions to a Memory Jar!)
9. Substitute Family Activities in Place of Screen Time – “[Our family resolution is] minimizing screen time, possibly by intentionally unplugging and keeping a list of activities that we can do as a family to choose from. Our goal will be to do this starting at least twice a month before increasing to at least once a week.” Kori of Just Another Mom
10. Work on Monthly Goals – “We actually don’t make ‘resolutions.’ We set goals for each month and discuss them during our family meetings each night at dinner.” Dayna of Lemon Lime Adventures
11. Spend More Time Outside – “As a family, our goals are to spend quality time together, embrace the moment, and play outside as much as possible.” Laura of Sunny Day Family
10. Be Healthier – “I have struggled so much more with my health since having kids. Not necessarily FROM having kids (although we all know that mama stress plays a part, right?). But more so that excess weight, hormonal fluctuation, stress, and my age are starting to collide in ways that are detrimental to my physical and psychological health. And the worst part – I’m starting to see how much this is affecting and being passed down to my kids. It’s time for us to get healthier. Notice that I didn’t say HEALTHY. Because honestly that feels unattainable most days. But to just take small steps – as a family – to get healthIER.” Krissy of B-Inspired Mama
